Earth News
Earth
has a message...
Can you hear it?
A SOMETHING in a summer’s day,
As slow her flambeaux burn away,
Which solemnizes me.
A something in a
summer’s noon,
An azure depth,
a wordless tune,
Transcending ecstasy.
And still within a
summer’s night
A something so transporting bright,
I clap my hands to see;
Then veil my too
inspecting face,
Lest such a subtle, shimmering grace
Flutter too far for me.
The wizard-fingers
never rest,
The purple brook
within the breast
Still chafes its
narrow bed;
Still rears the East her amber flag,
Guides still the sun
along the crag
His caravan of red,
Like flowers that heard
the tale of dews,
But never deemed the dripping prize
Awaited their
low brows;
Or bees, that thought the summer’s name
Some rumor of delirium
No summer could
for them;
Or Arctic creature,
dimly stirred
By tropic hint,
—some travelled bird
Imported to the wood;
Or wind’s bright signal
to the ear,
Making that homely
and severe,
Contented, known, before
The heaven
unexpected came,
To lives that thought their worshipping
A too presumptuous psalm.

Gluten, Global Warming,
Bad Breath & Diabetes

Message
from Bernadette Wulf
Greetings!
Now
that Midsummer has passed and the days are getting shorter, we enter into the season of bountiful
harvest. Are you finding luscious piles of ripe organic peaches,
apricots, watermelon, cherries, and berries at your local markets? I
am. What an amazingly abundant planet we live on!
This month we take a look at the gluten-free craze. We are seeing
"gluten-free" labels on things that never even came close to containing
gluten, like coconut water! It is starting to look like paranoia. Then
we have all the gluten-free flour substitutes being promoted as healthy
alternatives. But are they really much better than the original flour
products they imitate?
And what if digesting gluten was all about gut health? That's what
Donna Gates of BodyEcology.com tells us. Read on for more details. We
also have some helpful tips for keeping your breath fresh, and then a
few sweeteners that diabetics may be able to handle in moderation. On a
more global scale, we take a look at the global warming controversy and
what it means for us.
Enjoy the glorious days of summer and the bounty of our organic farms and gardens.
To
Your
Health!

Is Gluten Free Flour Really Healthy?
We
all like a treat now and then, and an occasional gluten free cupcake,
or spaghetti with gluten free pasta isn't going to kill us, but don't
make a habit of it - not unless you want to gum up your intestines with
sludge.
From
bodyecology.com: "Anyone with heartburn, small intestinal bacterial
overgrowth, Candida overgrowth, irregular bowel movements, acne, mood
swings, or leaky gut must be extremely observant of their body when
eating almond flour, coconut flour, or nut butters, [any kind of flour products - Ed.].
'The biggest problem we see with many gluten-free flour products is
that they tend to become a gummy sludge within the intestine. This can
clog up the elimination channels and slow movement within the
intestine—linking them to constipation, leaky gut, and Candida
overgrowth."
This
doesn't mean that gluten-containing flours are any better. In fact,
wheat flour can be a lot worse for most people. The problem comes with
grinding
anything into smaller bits than our teeth would naturally produce while
chewing. Our bodies are not designed to digest flour, nut butters,
smoothies, or anything else that is finely processed. We can get away
with eating some of that sort of thing for awhile, but over time, it
can create a layer of goo that is impossible to remove without eating a
lot of fiber to sweep it away.
So, if you choose to eat flour products of any kind, always include
extra fiber in your diet, and give your digestive system a break by
avoiding processed foods most of the time. If you want to maintain optimal health, baked goods, pasta and other
refined products should be a very occasional treat, rather than a
staple of your diet.

The Truth About Global Warming
Some
say that truth is a relative thing. Others claim it is an absolute.
Well, when it comes to global warming, there seems to be no absolute
answer. There
is something really fishy going on, as you may be suspecting
by now, and the issue of global warming is only one of many red flags
I've
seen.
The big question is, "Why?" Why are U.S. government agencies
pushing the issue of global warming on us, even to the extent of having to falsify
documents? What do they have to gain? And conversely, what do we have
to lose?
From NaturalNews.com - "Now, in what might be the largest scientific
fraud ever uncovered, NASA and the NOAA have been caught red-handed
altering historical temperature data to produce a 'climate change
narrative' that defies reality. This finding, originally documented on
the Real Science website, is detailed here.
"We
now know that historical temperature data for the continental United
States were deliberately altered by NASA and NOAA scientists in a
politically-motivated attempt to rewrite history and claim global
warming is causing U.S. temperatures to trend upward. The data actually
show that we are in a cooling trend, not a warming trend (see chart)."
What the heck?
I am completely in favor of eliminating pollution, planting trees, developing renewable energy resources, etc., but I don't
believe that NASA and friends are distorting this evidence simply in order to promote clean energy.
Could it be that NASA and NOAA are trying to take the focus away from
real dangers created by the greed and power of their corporate
sponsors, like GMOs, toxic agribusiness practices, the demise of bee
populations, and the massive plastic mess in the ocean? Just my guess.
What do you think?
Again from NaturalNews.com - "Seeing these charts [falsified chart included on article webpage - Ed.], you might wonder how
the extremely high temperatures of the 1930's came about. Were we
releasing too much CO2 by burning fossil fuels?
"Nope. That entire episode of massive warming and drought was caused by
conventional agricultural practices that clear-cut forests, poisoned
the soils with chemicals and plowed the top soil away. Lacking trees to
retain moisture, areas that were once thriving plains, grasslands and
forests turned to desert. Suddenly, the cooling effects of moisture
transpiration from healthy plant ecosystems was lost, causing extreme
temperatures and deadly drought. [Sound familiar Californians? - Ed.]
'Shortsighted agricultural practices, in other words, really did cause
'warming,' while a restoration of a more natural ecosystem reversed the
trend and cooled the region."
Bottom line, this just gives us more reasons to support
organic farmers by buying only organic products and avoiding meat and dairy whenever possible, thus
preventing any repetition of the heat spike we saw in the 1930s. Also,
we need to support industrial hemp farms that can eliminate the need to
cut down trees for paper and building materials. We obviously have
to keep a very close eye on government shenanigans that claim to serve
us while lying outright and secretly undermining our constitutional
rights.
Whether climate change or global warming turn out to be lies or truth
over the long term, we already know from centuries of trial and error,
not to mention common sense, that it is vitally important to protect
and rebuild our topsoil, maintain a healthy balance of plants, animals,
and insects, and to maintain our forests. This will only happen when
enough people stop buying "conventional" produce and factory-farmed
meat and dairy products.

7 Remedies for Bad Breath
Ah!
Take a deep breath and feel the fresh air filling your lungs.
Will it smell as fresh on the way out? Here are a few tips that can
help you keep it that way:
From NaturalNews.com [Abbreviated list]-
1. Keep a clean mouth. [Brush and floss regularly - Duh! -Ed.]
2.Consider using a mouthwash that contains essential oils.
3. Rinse your mouth with apple cider vinegar.
[Be sure to flush mouth with pure water afterward. - Ed.]
4. Get rid of stress.
5. Chew fennel seeds... causes your mouth to become more alkaline.
6. Don't care for fennel seeds? How about clove or cardamom?
7. Drink green or black tea.
To find out why these remedies work, read the entire article.
If you try all these remedies and your breath still smells foul, you
may have a serious digestive problem. I would suggest trying The Body Ecology Diet
for a few months. It can make a great difference in your general
health, particularly in your digestion, and will even help you lose
weight effortlessly.

Is Gluten Really the Problem?
Gluten
has suddenly become the big bad media villain that we all need to watch
out for. It is hidden in all sorts of processed foods, and of course in
baked goods. But why have we recently become so sensitive to it? After
all, gluten has been in the diets of most cultures for thousands of
years.
Donna Gates has done a lot of research on digestive health, and her
conclusion is that it is a lack of healthy gut bacteria that causes us
to lose the ability to digest gluten. Before the advent of antibiotics,
very few people had gluten sensitivities. Now, with antibiotics being
added to animal feeds, and even sprayed on fruit, most of us are
bombarded with antibiotics on a daily basis. Add to that the occasional
medical use of antibiotics and our gut flora doesn't stand a chance!
From
BodyEcology.com - "Researchers recently discovered that healthy gut
bacteria can break down the gluten grain protein. Even though the gut
isn’t equipped to break down gluten, gluten-digesting gut bacteria can.
The sad truth is that most of us are missing diverse gluten-digesting
gut bacteria because of a wounded inner ecosystem, often caused by
stress or antibiotic use."
I mentioned the Body Ecology Diet in the first article, because I have
found it to be the most balanced and healing diet available, and it can
be adapted to fit any lifestyle. The best thing about it is that it
features lots of probiotic cultured foods that will restore the healthy
flora in your gut. If you stick with this diet, over time, you will
find that your digestion improves, your gut heals, and your auto-immune
symptoms eventually vanish.

5 Healthier Sweeteners for Diabetics
Need
a little more sweetness in your life, but diabetes holds you back?
Maybe some of these choices will give you the sweetness you crave
without boosting your blood sugar too much. Of course you have to take
responsibility for your own health and monitor the effect of each of these
sweeteners, but you may find that you can tolerate them in moderation
much better than table sugar. Here are 5 choices you may not have tried
yet:
From NaturalNews.com [abbreviated - Ed.]- 1. Raw honey -- especially the darker varieties like
buckwheat -- contains antioxidants that can help fight cell-damaging
free radicals, as well as strong antibacterial properties.
2. Coconut sugar -- may have a lower glycemic index than refined sugars,
preventing the spikes in blood sugar levels that can interfere with
diabetes management and play a major role in weight management.
3. Date sugar -- doesn't dissolve well in liquids like coffee of tea,
but it is great added to other foods and can even be substituted at a
1:1 ratio in recipes that call for brown sugar.
4. Molasses -- a byproduct of the white-sugar-refining process,
containing all the nutrients and vitamins that are stripped away as
sugar cane is refined.
5. Maple syrup -- full of calcium, potassium, manganese, phosphorous, magnesium
and iron, as well as vitamins B2, B5, B6, niacin, biotin and folic
acid.
"Whether you have diabetes or you're at risk for developing the disease,
or if you simply want to choose healthier alternatives to refined
sugars, these natural sweeteners can provide healthier -- and tastier
-- alternatives to white and brown sugars and artificial sweeteners.
Try incorporating one or two into your diet and enjoy the benefits of a
more natural sugar substitute. And if you've been experiencing any of
the symptoms of diabetes or prediabetes, including extreme thirst,
heightened appetite, major weight loss or weight gain or frequent
urination, see your doctor to discuss your risk profile and talk about
the tests that can help determine if you have the disease."
You
may also want to try Stevia in drops and/or powder form. It will not
raise blood sugar at all. A tiny bit goes a long way. Too much will
leave an unpleasant aftertaste, so start out with much less than you
may think you want. Stevia blends well with lemon, for a great tasting
lemonade. You can also use Stevia in combination with other sweeteners,
to lower your sweet treats on the glycemic index. Experiment to find
out how much you can add without getting the aftertaste.
