Lyme, Heart Health, Fluoride, & Green Smoothies
|
Message from Bernadette Wulf
-
Greetings!
Top o' the mornin' to ya. It may be a wee bit early to put your Irish
on, but it's never too early for green smoothies. Much better for your
health than green beer! You can even throw in a few shamrocks - and
remember they have three leaves, not four. For some strange reason the
four leaf clover has been slowly taking the place of the classic
shamrock in pop culture. Have you noticed that? Probably some sort of
GMO shamrock invasion from Monsanto!
But enough silliness. We are finally getting some wintery weather here
in Northern California, just in time for the start of spring! Good time
to start thinking about taking milk thistle, dandelion, and other liver
cleansing herbs to clear out toxins and get off to a fresh start for a
healthy summer.
I've been closely following the amazing crumbling of the world banking
infrastructure. Have you? Things are getting really interesting in the
realm of finance and corporate business. Who knows where it will lead,
but my guess it that we will be seeing some massive changes over the
next few months. Hold onto your hats! I have a feeling this is going to
be a wild ride.
On a more personal level, it may be a good time to make sure you have a
stash of emergency supplies, just in case things get crazy. It never
hurts to be prepared for anything. Natural disasters, strange weather
patterns, and political unrest can come along when you least expect
them.
Meanwhile, this month we cover:
A surprising source of toxic fluoride in the American diet. (And don't forget, toxins can make you fat!)
New insights into Lyme disease - but the same old options for treatment continue to be the best bets.
A hot debate on the green smoothie issue.
And a really good video on heart disease and how to prevent it. (At least I thought so.)
Happy Spring Equinox, St. Paddy's Day, and whatever else you like to celebrate in March.
To Your Health!

Fluoride - Yet Another Reason to Eat Organic!
-
Here's something I didn't know. Even though I am an avid proponent of
buying and eating organically grown foods for other reasons, I now find
out that agribusiness crops are one of the biggest sources of toxic
fluoride. Even if you are filtering your water and avoiding fluoridated
toothpaste and beverages in aluminum cans, you can still be ingesting
high levels of fluoride just from eating non-organic produce!
This is what Dr. Mercola has to say about it: "While toothpaste and
drinking water would appear to be the leading sources of fluoride
exposure, probably the most common source of exposure is actually
non-organic foods! The reason for this is because of the widespread use
of fluoride-based pesticides.
"According to [Jeff] Green, non-organic food could account for as much as one-third of the average person's fluoride exposure!"
Of course a lot of that fluoride ends up in our soil, air and water,
poisoning other species in addition to humans. There is just no
advantage to agribusiness aside from the huge profits it makes for a
few wealthy individuals. The rest of us are paying them for our poison,
unless we buy organically grown foods.
Did I mention that I support organic farmers? I figure, if I say it
often enough it may eventually get people thinking about their food
buying choices, particularly next time they are at the grocery store.

Lyme Disease Not JUST a Tick-Borne Disease
-
Have you had strange, unexplainable symptoms? It could very well be
Lyme disease. Aches and pains, nerve anomalies, brain fog, and even
serious diseases have all been linked to Lyme. According to Dr.
Mercola, "Some experts feel that almost everyone has been exposed to
Lyme disease and may have it in one way, shape or form."
As we learn more about Lyme disease, the story becomes more and more
fascinating. According to Dr. Mercola: "It's now been fairly
well-established that chronic infection is an underlying factor in most
chronic illnesses. Diseases such as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and
chronic fatigue are all turning out to be expressions of chronic
infections."
Mercola quotes Dr. Klinghardt, who is "passionate about finding
effective natural treatments for Lyme," as saying: 'Right at the center
of [these infections] is the ongoing discovery of Lyme disease.'
Mercola goes on to say: "Lyme disease has recently received a new
definition. It now refers to illnesses transferred by insects, as
opposed to simply a tick-borne disease. Mosquitoes can carry Lyme
disease and many other serious infections, as can spiders, fleas and
mites."
In other words, have you been bitten by a bug in the last 30 years?
Most of us have, and there is a good chance that bug was a Lyme
carrier.
Quoting Dr. Klinghardt again: "… We know that Lyme spirochetes
were around for a long time but something happened maybe 30-40 years
ago, where the creatures became more aggressive, more penetrating, and
more illness-producing than they were before. Some of us suspect it's a
man-made element. Some of us suspect that the global warming may play a
role in it.
"I personally suspect that the exposure to electromagnetic fields in
the home and the microwaves from cell phone radiation are driving the
virulence of many of the microbes that are naturally in us, and makes
them aggressive and illness producing. There is probably evidence for
all sides of the discussion."
So, maybe most of us have some version of Lyme disease. The question
then becomes, what can we do about it? There have been some positive
results with massive antibiotic treatments, however they are quite
expensive and there are few doctors who are knowledgeable enough about
Lyme to administer them (not to mention the fact that antibiotics will
surely wreak havoc in the digestive tract which may lead to candida or
other serious health issues). Also, because Lyme can go dormant, the
antibiotics may not even kill it. Lyme can return years later, or
another bug bite may start a new infection, starting the whole cycle
over again.
There are two Lyme solutions I recommend, based on personal experience and scientific studies I have read about.
1. Samento is an herbal treatment I have learned about that seems to
work very well for most people. Samento is a very concentrated extract
of cat's claw herb.
Samento has no known contraindications, no known side effects, and no
known interactions with other drugs. No toxic effects were reported
even when laboratory rodents received 120,000 times the equivalent
human dose. We probably can't say that about antibiotic treatments!
For the best price I've found online - http://www.healthsuperstore.com/p-nutramedix-inc-samento-liquid-extract-1-oz.htm
I take Samento whenever I have any symptoms that may be Lyme related.
My symptoms (mainly muscle pain in my neck and shoulders) quickly
improve, especially when I also take vitamin C and a magnesium
supplement. (For some reason Lyme has been found to use up a lot of
magnesium, which could be one cause of muscle aches.)
2. Grounding (physically contacting Earth, or connecting a conductive
cord between Earth and bare skin, alleviates inflammation and allows
the body to release electromagnetic energy that Dr. Klinghardt
implicates in his assessment of Lyme causes. I use a grounding cord
when working at the computer and I always sleep on a grounding mat. I
have found that this really helps to relieve inflammatory Lyme
symptoms.
Whether it is actually possible to "cure" Lyme is still in question. As
Dr. Klinghardt suggests, Lyme may be an evolutionary stimulus. Perhaps
we will simply find a way to adapt to it and it may actually turn out
to be a positive force in our evolution. Time will tell. Meanwhile, the
best thing we can do is keep our immune systems strong, stay grounded
as much as possible, and keep Samento, magnesium, and vitamin C on hand
for handling flare ups.

Green Smoothie Red Alert!
-
I found this article pretty amusing. Someone heard a quote from Dr. Esselstyn saying:
“Avoid smoothies. The fiber is so finely pureed that its helpful
properties are destroyed. The sugar is stripped from the fruit,
bypasses salivary digestion and results in a surge of glucose and the
accompanying fructose contributes to inflammation and
hypertension.”
So they decided all smoothies are bad. Turns out things are never as
cut and dried as they may seem. Kevin Gianni, while paying homage to
Dr. Esselstyn, artfully rebuffs his opinion on smoothies. I tend to
agree with Kevin.
I start out just about every day with a green smoothie made from leafy
greens, fresh fruit, and water (and usually a squirt of Oceans Alive
Marine Phytoplankton). It is the best thing I have ever done for my
digestion, which tends to be on the sluggish side. If the fiber is "so
finely pureed that its helpful properties are destroyed," I don't know
what is keeping my colon rollin' so well. I can totally tell the
difference when I skip my morning smoothie. That fiber is doing its job
just fine.
If you have blood sugar issues, it would be prudent to be cautious.
Start off slowly and test to see how much, if any, smoothie consumption
you can tolerate. Many people do not have any problem with green
smoothies, since the greens slow down the absorption of the sugars.
Like Kevin says, "Nothing applies to everyone."
