Bones to Botox and Then Some
|
Message from Bernadette Wulf
-
Healthy Greetings!
Ah Spring! I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am. Kids are already
getting out of school for the summer. How did that happen so fast?
I just realized, speaking of time speeding by, that it has been almost
five years since I started writing this newsletter. Often I get so busy
that I have to squeeze it in at the last minute (like today), but
somehow it gets out there every month. I still really enjoy writing it
and sorting through hundreds of articles throughout each month in order
to find the most interesting ones to include here.
This month we have the latest findings on a Tylenol-cancer link, some
really good information on preserving your bones, a rather amusing
study on the social side effects of Botox treatments, a disgusting
article on what they do to meat (but you really should read it if you
eat meat, so you can avoid it), some useful lists of natural first aid
remedies (including my own favorites), and a handy list of the GMO
foods you will want to avoid if you know what's good for you - and the
other organisms on the planet.
That about wraps it up for June, with 15 minutes to spare. Happy
Father's Day to all you fathers out there. And happy Summer Solstice to
all of us. See ya next month.
To Your Health!

Tylenol Linked to Cancer
-
Think twice before you pop those painkillers or you may have twice the chance of getting cancer!
Sure, painkillers have their purpose. I found out when my back went out
a few months ago that painkillers can make the difference between being
totally incapacitated and being able to do something as essential as
get up and get a drink of water. But when overused, painkillers can be
deadly. We've all heard how aspirin can cause internal bleeding. Now
Tylenol (acetaminophen) is showing its dark side.
Dr. Mercola recently posted an article that included the following quote:
"According to Reuters: 'The scientists followed nearly 65,000 older men
and women in Washington State. At the outset, they asked the
participants about their use of painkillers over the past ten years and
made sure that no one had cancer ... After accounting for things like
age, arthritis and a family history of certain blood cancers, chronic
acetaminophen users had nearly twice the risk of developing the
disease.'"
Those are some pretty serious odds, and you can be sure that if it can
cause cancer it is also causing a lot of other problems. Next time you
are about to pop one of those acetaminophen pills, stop and think. Is
it really worth the risk? If you are in excruciating pain, it may well
be. On the other hand, if it is just a minor ache or something that
will soon pass, you may want to just grin and bear it. Better yet, try
a placebo or deal with the underlying cause.
If you are in chronic pain, that is a sign that you may be seriously
toxic. Adding painkillers to your already toxic burden will only make
matters worse. Instead, try an internal cleansing program. If you have
a chronic disease and you don't have experience with cleansing, I
recommend that you check yourself into a clinic that specializes in
cleansing, like True North in Santa Rosa, CA, Tree of Life in
Patagonia, AZ, Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, FL, or
The Gearson Institute in San Diego, CA. They all have experienced staff
and great track records in curing chronic diseases, including cancer
(though nobody is allowed to say they can cure cancer).

Great Article on Preserving Your Bones!
-
Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo may not be a household name, but I've been on
her mailing list for quite awhile and she comes up with some excellent
research from time to time. I thought her recent article on bones was
one of the best I've ever read. I learned that prunes (9-10 per day)
are one of the best possible foods to increase bone density and that
gluten sensitivity can eat away at your bones. If only we could make
bread out of prunes!
The article really helped me understand the way bones grow and function. Here is an excerpt:
"Most people don’t realize that bone is actually living tissue
containing a plethora of minerals. They think it’s static rather
than ever changing. Normal bone metabolism consists of osteoclast
activity, which breaks down bone and frees the minerals contained into
your blood stream, followed by osteoblast activity, which creates new
bone. This break and build cycle allows you to continuously have fresh
new bone."
No matter how old you are, you can keep building strong bones. The key
is not to lose the precious minerals needed to rebuild your bones. Read
the next article for tips on how to tell whether you are building or
breaking down your bones.

Simple Home Test for Healthy Bones
-
Here's another excerpt from Dr. Ritamarie's bone article (link above):
"When your bone breaks down, certain by-products appear in your urine
and your blood. The N-telopeptide or NTx test is one way to evaluate
the rate at which your bones are undergoing bone resorption. NTx is a
stable and specific breakdown product of type I collagen, which makes
up 90% of the organic matrix of bone and consists of numerous
cross-linked protein strands. Elevated NTx level is reflective of
increased bone resorption and correlates with diminishing bone density
over time. Levels can be measured in either urine or serum."
If you are concerned about your bone density, you can use the link
below to order your own NTx bone resorption test. You will also find a
lot of good information and other available tests on the site.

Botox May Block Empathy
-
Here's an interesting study. It suggests that botox injections not only
make people look like plastic dolls, they can also block the ability to
empathize with others.
From USA Today: "'People who use Botox are less able to read others'
emotions,' says Neal, who worked with a researcher at Duke University
in Durham, N.C. 'People read emotions partly by mimicking facial
expressions, Neal says, so 'if muscular signals from the face to the
brain are dampened, you're less able to read emotions.'"
Of course, if you can't read emotions you also lose access to empathy.
It would be interesting to do a study on wrinkles to see if the
opposite holds true. Perhaps those with the most wrinkles are the most
empathic, because they easily mimic the expressions of others. I know I
always feel more comfortable with people who have expressive faces.
Maybe that is because I sense that they are more understanding. Just
some food for thought.

Meat You Should Never, Eat
-
Dr. Mercola is back on his meat kick. I really doubt that anyone really
needs meat, but he seems to think some people do. What he doesn't
recommend is meat with "glue" in it. If you are a meat eater, this is
something you should know about. I had no idea!
Follow the link below to learn more. That's all I'm going to say about it.

Alternative First Aid - Top 14 Remedies
-
I don't know why people call these remedies "alternative," because many
of them would be my primary choices for first aid. Something like
Tylenol should the alternative, to be used only when nothing else
works! But somehow the old, tried and true remedies of our ancestors
have now been relegated to the alternative category. Never the less,
they work as well as they ever did.
The top 14 on my list are: (not necessarily in the order of frequency of use)
1. Echinacea tincture (immune support)
2. Goldenseal tincture (immune support, parasites)
3. Homeopathic Arnica Monatana (bumps, sprains, bruises)
4. Lavender oil (headaches)
5. Hydrogen Peroxide (wound cleansing, ear wax removal, in ears to relieve colds or flu)
6. Ginger tea (upset tummy, nausea, motion sickness)
7. Vitamin C - usually Emergen-C (immune support, detox)
8. Homeopathic Apis (bee stings, poison oak)
9. Rescue Remedy (any sort of shock, stress, or trauma)
10.Aloe Vera gel (burns, sunburn)
11.Astragalus tincture (immune support)
12.Milk Thistle tincture (liver support, detox)
13.Topricin (burns, bruises, sprains)
14.Zinc & Elderberry lozenges (colds, sore throats)

Eight GMO Foods You Should Avoid
-
Last but not least, here's a list of the genetically modified foods
currently in our food supply. If you are not buying them organically
grown you are probably getting the GMO version. I've posted plenty of
material in the past on the dangers of GMOs, so I won't go off on
another rant here. Visit healitall.com newsletter archives for more
information on that. Right now, I just wanted to give you a heads up on
what to watch out for when you go grocery shopping.
I'm pretty on top of this issue, but I didn't know about zucchini and
crookneck squash! And don't forget the recently legalized alfalfa that
will soon be finding its way into animal feeds. Don't allow yourself to
be used as Monsanto's laboratory rat. Boycott these foods (and all the
rest of Monsanto's products). The world, not to mention your own
health, will be far better for it.
Soy (soy oil)
Sugar from sugar beets
Corn (corn oil)
Hawaiian papaya
Cottonseed (cottonseed oil)
Some varieties of zucchini
Canola (canola oil)
Crookneck squash
