Laughter is the Best Medicine
|
Message
from Bernadette Wulf
-
Greetings!
Sometimes teenagers can be really annoying! Sorry, I had to restate the
obvious, because I've just had a particularly annoying week with a
teenager. Why do they have to be so stubborn and well... annoying?
Arrrg! But then I heard about damnyouautocorrect.com and spent a few
minutes reading the posts there... laughing so hard I had tears running
down my face... and suddenly all the teenage antics just seemed funny.
It's all a matter of perspective.
That made me think about the power of humor to lift our burdens and
heal our negative states of mind. And when we heal our negative states
of mind, our bodies thrive. Our cells love humor. Just pay attention to
how you feel after a good laugh and you will feel that feeling of happy
cells. People have even cured themselves of "terminal" diseases by
watching funny movies and laughing.
Just about everyone I know seems to be dealing with higher than usual
levels of stress and anxiety. It is no wonder with all the wars,
revolutions, and natural disasters in the news. Our hearts go out to
those who are suffering in other parts of the world, but there is so
little we can do to help. It is stressful even for those who stand on
the sidelines. Remember that your body needs more B vitamins and
Vitamin C when under stress. Magnesium is also important to soothe
those jangled nerves.
Of course, the threat of radiation poisoning is another form of stress,
but there are many protective foods that can help alleviate that one,
as you will see below. It might be that an overload of aluminum is much
more threatening, since it may cause breast cancer, but there are ways
to protect yourself from that, too.
In the plus column, spirulina and sweet potatoes (including pie) are
two of the most nutritious foods on the planet. In fact, if push came
to shove, I bet you could survive pretty well on just those two foods
alone. That's something to smile about.
So turn off the news and find something to laugh about. You will feel
so much better. You can start with Damn You Autocorrect! and move on
from there. The world can be a pretty funny place.
To Your Health!

Damn
You, Autocorrect!
-
Here's one good way to relieve stress. I hope I don't offend anyone by
including this web link, but Damn You, Autocorrect! is one of the
funniest websites I've found. I will warn you, some of the posts are
crude, but that is part of what makes them funny. The people were not
trying to be crude, but their phone autocorrect texting program
inserted words that made their posts absurdly funny, and probably often
embarrassing.
Here is just one of the tamer posts:
Group MMS: "...taking bites out of it as they go. Making it more and
more difficult"
Pastor Jake: "Art projects with condoms to see who can make the best
face on it" "Danmyouatocorrecy condiments"
One can only imagine what the original text was about, but it sounds
intriguing. Check it out and have a good laugh. Your cells will thank
you.

Good
for Pets and You Too!
-
Most pets these days get their food out of a bag of dry, extruded,
processed food. There is nothing alive or raw left in it. These diets
may be balanced in terms of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs, and
fats, but they are missing certain factors that can only be found in
raw foods. Plus, many of these diets are woefully deficient in the
nutrients pets need for optimal health. One way to remedy this problem
is to add spirulina to your pet's food. By the way, it is pretty good
for humans, too.
From Mercola.com Dr. Karen Becker - "One of my favorite ways to supply
vitamins and minerals to my own animals as well as the patients I treat
is in an all natural, wholly absorbable, biologically available super
green food called spirulina. Spirulina is freshwater, blue-green algae
that is densely packed with fully absorbable protein. It contains a
full spectrum of amino acids that absorb rapidly into your
pet’s
bloodstream. Spirulina is about 60 percent protein in its natural form,
so it contains more protein ounce-for-ounce than meat. It is also a
source of fatty acids, antioxidants and phytonutrients. It is a
wonderful whole food for pets."

Sweet
Potatoes Packed with Goodness
-
Did you know that sweet potatoes are one of the most nutritious
vegetables on the planet?
According to NaturalNews - "Sweet potatoes ranked number one in
nutrition out of all vegetables by the Center for Science in the Public
Interest because they are such a rich source of dietary fiber, natural
sugars, complex carbohydrates, protein, carotenoids, vitamin C, iron
and calcium."
That is only reason #9 out of a whole list of reasons to add sweet
potatoes to your diet. Some call them yams, but even the dark orange
varieties are a type of sweet potato. You can simply poke them with a
knife and bake them like an ordinary potato, but do put them on a pan,
because they will drip. By the way, don't bother trying to scrub the
drips off the pan. They will effortlessly dissolve when soaked in
water.
There are all sorts of candied yam recipes you can try, but I've never
found one that improves on a simple baked sweet potato. Sweet potato
pie, however, is one of my all time favorite desserts and well worth
the extra effort.

Radiation
Headed Our Way
-
We can't get away from the news about the multiple Japanese power plant
meltdowns. It is a very sad situation and one that I hope will cause us
to rethink the wisdom of nuclear power plants all over the world.
Disasters like these are inevitable, because nature is powerful and
unpredictable. California has several nuclear plants sitting very close
to earthquake faults and also close to the ocean. As far as I'm
concerned, that is a criminally insane risk to take.
However, there is wisdom in focusing on what we can do to prevent
radiation damage to our own bodies, rather than fretting about what we
cannot change, since government policies will probably not change
anytime soon. It is too soon to tell how much radiation will reach
mainland USA, but we have already detected trace amounts. Be prepared
for anything and hope for the best.
It is always a good idea to keep your mineral levels up, and this
crisis is just one more reminder of the protective value of good
nutrition. Fortunately, nature has provided us with many foods that can
help to protect us from radiation (and don't forget, most of us are
bombarded with medical x-rays and other forms of radiation on a regular
basis), and there is no better time to think about ways to protect your
body from radiation. Here are some of the most protective foods:
From Ann Louise Gittleman's blog:
"• Sea vegetables—with their high sodium alginate
content—are great radiation chelators. Choose from nori,
wakame,
kombhu, arame, dulse, hijiki, kelp, and agar agar. Many of these
foods—in addition to miso soup—were fed to the
staff and
patients of a hospital in Nagaski, Japan when the atomic bomb hit the
area in World War II.
• Vegetables high in beta carotene aid in boosting immunity
and
protecting mucus membranes from extreme dryness and reddening of the
tissues caused from radiation exposure. Choose from kale and all
greens, carrots, spinach, pumpkin and winter squash, beets, sweet
potatos, melons, apricots, and other yellow, and orange, and red fruits
and vegetables.
• Homeopathic cell salts—especially Cadmimum Sulph
and Kali Phos—are well recognized radiation antidotes.
• Potassium, calcium, and mineral rich foods help support
thyroid
function [and iodine in particular]—the gland that is most
easily
impacted by radiation exposure of any type. Choose from fruit, nuts and
seeds, fish, and poultry.
Other helpful radiation food remedies:
• High nucleotide content foods to protect DNA integrity.
Choose from sardines, anchovies, and brewers yeast.
• Adaptogens. Choose from astragalus, ginsing, shiitake and
maitake mushrooms."
Make sure your mushrooms were harvested before the radiation leaks,
because medicinal mushrooms are said to store radiation while growing.
The next article offers lots more good ideas for radiation protection.

The
Anti-Radiation Diet
-
From Safe Space Protection website:
"Diet and your body’s susceptibility to radiation are closely
entwined. Radiation and pollutants destroy vitamins A, C, E, K several
N vitamins, essential fatty acids, calcium and neuro-hormones. If your
body lacks calcium. Potassium and other nutrients, it will more readily
absorb the radioactive elements that are similar in structure to these
nutrients."

Alarming
Hidden Cause of Breast Cancer
-
I thought this article was really interesting, because it talks about
the connection between free iron, aluminum and breast cancer. Somehow,
aluminum (as well as heavy alcohol consumption) causes the body to
release iron into surrounding tissues, which seems to be one of the
causes of breast cancer.
From mercola.com - "In previous studies researchers found that one's
intake of iron did not necessarily correlate with risk of breast
cancer, but rather the release of iron from its protective proteins,
such as ferritin and transferrin was critical."
Apparently, it is only the iron that is released, due to alcohol or
aluminum in the bloodstream, that causes problems. But aluminum is now
so widespread that most of us have more than optimal amounts. These
studies are not conclusive, but they point to a serious problem that
needs more study.
The article goes on to say, "Many inactivated vaccines contain aluminum
salts to boost the immune reaction. Studies have shown that this
aluminum is slowly dispersed all over the body and may be concentrated
in breast ducts.
"The amount of aluminum in vaccines is tremendous, especially in such
vaccines as the anthrax vaccine, hepatitis vaccine and tetanus vaccine.
"Since many American children are being exposed to multiple doses of
aluminum containing vaccines by the time they are 6 years old, one
would expect very high exposures to injected aluminum."
Add to this the frequent consumption of sodas and other drinks in
aluminum cans, aluminum cookware, underarm deodorants containing
aluminum, and the areal spraying of aluminum for weather control, and
we are all getting a lot more aluminum than nature intended. It is no
wonder that breast cancer is on the rise.
Why take chances with your health? I try to keep my aluminum levels
down by avoiding the sources listed above whenever possible. Eating
lots of cilantro can also help remove excess aluminum from the body.
