Greetings!
Whew! August has been one of the more challenging months of my life. I
don't know if it's the combination of Mercury retrograde with the
cardinal cross, or what, but I hope it passes soon, whatever it is! I
thought maybe this sparkly angel might bring in some uplifting and
soothing energy to counteract my recent stressful experiences. I don't
need to go into detail. I'm sure you all have had your share of stress,
especially all you women.
Turns out that women actually experience stress more profoundly than
men. Lucky us. But just about everyone in our modern world has to deal
with more stress than most of our ancestors did. That's why I've
included an article on how to activate the vagus nerve to relieve
stress.
I hope I haven't ranted too much this month. I think I read one too
many articles on animal experimentation and it set off my inner
crusader alarm. Animals have been some of my best friends throughout my
life and I am empathic enough to be aware of their emotions. They feel
very much as we do. They have similar nervous systems, desires, and
fear and pain responses. We really have to stop torturing them!
But, on the bright side, we have articles on meditation and barefoot
babies. What could be more uplifting than that? I also found a
stockpile of references supporting homeopathic medicine, for all those
naysayers out there. That makes me feel good. I'm not too impressed
with all the biofuel propaganda I've been finding lately, so I've
included an article on that, since it WILL impact our health. Methinks
Monsanto may be behind it, but I don't want to add that stress to my
overloaded brain right now.
I suspect that we will all be challenged in the near future, to review
our lives and change the things that are not working on a personal and
on a collective level. We stand at a crossroads in many ways right now.
Which direction will we choose? It is up to each of us to decide, and I
have a feeling the consequences will be dramatic one way or another. It
is time to ask ourselves what is really important, and let the rest
drop away.

Salmonella
Helps Destroy Cancer Cells

Isn't it interesting how nature has a way of balancing things out. In
this case, it looks like one disease can help to cure another. From
Reuters - "The scientists said they thought the salmonella bacteria,
which they used in a safe form that did not cause illness itself,
helped to flag up cancer cells to the body's immune system, which was
then able to find and kill them." In the Naturopathic way of thinking,
disease is simply the body's attempt to heal itself by clearing out
toxins with symptoms like fever, vomiting, runny nose, etc., so this is
not surprising news to me. It looks like another one of those cases
where "disease" is actually part of the cleansing process. The
salmonella bacteria appears to help the body find and destroy cancer
cells.
This is fascinating, though I really wish they would stop torturing
poor little mice, rats, rabbits, monkeys, etc. in order to discover
this sort of information. Scientists actually give animals horrible
diseases like cancer so they can then find the cure, but in the
process, millions of animals, who have emotions and pain sensitivity
similar to ours, are subjected to lives of fear, misery, and anguish.
What gives us the right to create disease and pain for other species
just so we can cure human diseases - that are most often caused by our
self-imposed unnatural lifestyle in the first place?
People who live in jungle tribes rarely die of our Western diseases.
They usually die of things like snake bites, accidents, and animal
attacks. Yet we systematically destroy their habitats and lifestyles
around the world and treat them like ignorant savages. We have so much
to learn from them about how to live in harmony with our environment
and how to live a healthy and balanced life! Our Western hubris never
ceases to amaze me.
I wouldn't be surprised if degenerative diseases like cancer and heart
disease turn out to be caused by our collective lack of compassion for
the other beings who share our planet. It could be that our inability
to live in harmony with the collective web of life is at the root of
all disease. Until we remember that we are all connected, we will never
be able to find balance, harmony, and true healing, no matter how many
animals we torture and how many "cures" we find.

Meditation
& Relaxation Can Prevent Aging!

While we are on the subject of connection and compassion, I found a
great article on activating the vagus nerve with meditation,
relaxation, and other anti-stress practices. According to Dr. Mark
Hyman, "...you can activate this nerve -- through relaxation,
meditation, and other ancient practices.
"What's the benefit of that? Well, by activating the vagus nerve, you
can control your immune cells, reduce inflammation, and even prevent
disease and aging!"
That's the good news. The bad news is that one of the destructive
tendencies of our Western lifestyle is our habit of pushing ourselves
to the extreme and not taking the time to relax and regenerate. We also
tend to put ourselves in stressful situations and, as you will read in
the final article below, women retain stress hormones much longer than
men do. So it is super important for women to learn to activate the
vagus nerve. Could that be the reason women far outnumber men in yoga
and meditation classes? And by the way, EFT has been found effective in
lowering cortisol levels and reducing stress, so don't forget to tap.
After the stressful month I've had, I know how hard it can be to clear
cortisol (the stress hormone) out of your body. It takes intentional
focus on relaxation and avoidance of stressful situations. I have seen
first hand how challenging it can be to find enough peace and quiet to
calm those jangled nerves and soothe emotional turmoil, but it is well
worth the effort. As the Buddhists say, "May all beings be happy. May
all beings be free from suffering." Make it so!

Scientific
Evidence for Homeopathic Medicine

The controversy over homeopathic remedies has always baffled me. If
something most often works and is a lot safer than prescription drugs,
surgery, and other medical interventions, it make sense to try it
first! I've used homeopathy for about 30 years and I've seen it work
virtual miracles. Sometimes it doesn't seem to work, but there are a
lot of possible reasons for that, including: wrong remedy, wrong dose,
something counteracted the remedy, too many drugs are in the system to
tell if the remedy is working or not, or maybe the remedy was exposed
to light or otherwise contaminated. Furthermore, the more medical
intervention you have preceding the remedy, the less effective the
remedy may be, because the energetic system will have been disrupted.
There is a lot of evidence and historical documentation to support the
effectiveness of homeopathy, as this article from NaturalNews indicates
- "There are more than 150 placebo controlled clinical studies, most of
which have shown positive results [for homeopathy], either compared
with a placebo or compared with a conventional drug.(6-10)
"If that were not enough, studies testing the effects of homeopathic
medicines on cell cultures, plants, animals, physics experiments, and
chemistry trials have shown statistically significant effects. (11-16)"
That is pretty good evidence for something that will not provide
pharmaceutical companies with millions of dollars. Check out the
substantial list of references at the bottom of the article for more
information.
My policy is to always start with the least invasive and least toxic
healing modalities first. If they don't work, try something else.
Homeopathy is one of the safest healing modalities on the planet. It is
totally non-toxic and virtually free of side effects. What could be
less invasive?

Biofuels
Are Not the Answer to Global Warming

Have you ever wondered why the media is pushing "green" biofuels so
hard? It may sound like a great idea to replace gasoline with corn,
soy, and canola oil, but imagine how much land it would take to produce
enough vegetable oil to fuel the world! And how much energy (gasoline)
will it take to grow and transport those crops? The answer is about
four times as much as we will get out of it! What is even worse is that
oxygen-producing forests are being burned in order to grow these
energy-draining crops, sending massive amounts of CO2 into the
atmosphere. Not only that, land that could be used to grow food is now
being used to grow biofuels.
So who ends up suffering? It's the same old imperialistic story - the
poor, the disenfranchised, the "small" people, the old, the children,
those who are directly dependent on the land to feed them. They are the
ones who will suffer first, but in the end we will all suffer, because
this is not a sustainable possibility.
According to this NaturalNews article, "American soybeans have an
indirect carbon footprint of 340kg of CO2 per gigajoule (GJ), while
conventional diesel and gasoline create only 85kg/GJ. Similarly, the
European rapeseed, a plant similar to the North American canola,
indirectly produces 150kg/GJ because additional land in other nations
has been converted to grow rapeseed for food in order to replace the
native crops that are now being grown for fuel."
Does that sound sustainable to you? I'd say it's back to the
sustainability drawing board for biofuel supporters. Personally, I
think we are going to have to redesign our communities so we are not so
dependent on motor vehicles of any kind, but who knows? Maybe we just
need to think outside the box to find another solution.

Bare
Feet Better for Baby

children simply walk barefoot."
As a long-time advocate for bare feet, I totally agree. Not only can
shoes interfere with brain development, they change our natural gait
and posture, and they cut us off from the magnetic field of Earth. Of
course, there are many times when shoes are absolutely necessary for
safety and insulation from cold or hot surfaces, but whenever possible
it is best for everyone to kick off their shoes and take a walk in the
park.

Stress
Lasts Longer for Women

It doesn't seem fair at all, but according to recent studies it looks
like women have a much harder time dealing with stress than men do.
(NaturalNews) "Two new studies have revealed that women deal with a lot
more mental stress than men do. According to the studies, women's
brains are more susceptible to the effects of stress hormones than
men's are, which can make their lives harder to deal with."
I recently heard that men can clear stress hormones from their bodies
in a matter of hours, while this can take up to a month for women! I
don't know about you, but I would sure like to find out how men do it.
Meanwhile, it's back to meditation, EFT, listening to chants, walking
barefoot on the beach, and finding quiet moments in my garden.
