Happy Halloween!
It's the Celtic New Year, so Happy New Year, too!
I thought I would bring in Mr. Q (my blue and gold macaw) this time, in
honor of the article on pets as health facilitators.
I've almost always had at least one pet. At times there have been
quite a few in my life (to put it conservatively), and I have no doubt
that they have all contributed greatly to my physical and emotional
health. In fact, I think they've saved me from insanity more than once!
Prostate problems are a concern for many men, but there are lots of
ways to prevent problems with a healthy diet. If you are a man, or
someone who cares about a man, you will want to read this latest news
on prostate health.
Then we'll tackle computers and their cords (that seem to multiply
on their own somehow). They each have their own health hazards, so get
informed about how to protect yourself.
Last but not least, the old flu shot dilemma looms large at this
time of year. I can't believe how many signs I see all over town
advertising them. Longs Drugstore? Safeway? These are retail stores!
Why are they promoting flu shots? Somebody out there really, really
wants us to get shot - but why? Read the final article and see what you
think.
In spite of all the health hazards out there, we still have each other
and our pets. It's a wonderful world.
To Your Health!

Pets
Help Keep Us Healthy
-
As a long-time animal lover, it is not surprising to read that pets
can improve our health. It's easy to understand why. For one thing,
there's the love factor.
As I child, my Dad said he loved his dog, but his sister told him,
"You can't love anything that can't love you." Well, I'm here to tell
you that dog loved him - and I wasn't even born yet. The reason I know
is because I've had wonderful dogs who loved me more unconditionally
than any human could. They were always there, leaping joyfully in the
air when I came home, ready to join me in any adventure, willing to put
up with my moods, my preoccupations, and my occasional days or weeks
away. Never a complaint or a grudge.
I think most of us intuitively know that animal companions are good
for us, but it's nice to see that science is now backing that up.
"(NaturalNews) There is now evidence showing that domestic animals
not only provide great companionship, but they can also help prevent
illness. A recent study conducted by the University of Minnesota has
highlighted the importance of regular contact with pets. The study
showed that having a cat for a pet can reduce your risk of heart attack
or stroke by just under 50 percent."
To give dogs their fair share of praise, the article goes on to
say: "Another study published in 2007 concluded that dog owners had
lower cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. Again, the
conclusion is that dogs (as well as cats) directly improve
humans’
health by improving stress levels."
That's just dogs and cats! Imagine what our bird, horse, rabbit,
goat, and chicken friends do for us - and then be sure to do something
for them. That's what love is all about.

Risk of Prostate Cancer 40 Percent Higher for Meat and Dairy Eaters!
That's big news. Why isn't it plastered across the headlines of
newspapers around the world, and announced on TV news broadcasts? Could
it be that the media is controlled by big meat and dairy corporations
that don't really want you to know?
Thank goodness there are people out there who are willing to stick
their necks out and tell you the truth - as in this SmartPublications
article -
http://www.smart-publications.com/prostate/prostate_health.php
(If the link doesn't work, copy and paste it to your browser search
bar. It's vital information that every man should read.)
(SmartPublications)
"THE GOOD NEWS:
Research shows some minerals, herbs, and other nutrients can
dramatically improve prostate health and reduce prostate cancer risk!
"THE BAD NEWS:
Most supplements contain the wrong form of key nutrients... AND...
New research shows that the most popular herb for prostate problems,
saw palmetto, may actually damage healthy prostate tissue! [Editor's
note: i.e. Don't take it unless you have prostate cancer!]
"Sooner or later most men will have prostate problems … but
you
don't have to join the club. You can prevent prostate problems before
they even begin … and alleviate uncomfortable prostate
symptoms quickly
and safely, with a superb nutritional supplement." [Editor's note: sold
by SmartPublications, of course.]
Unfortunately, SmartPublications seems to have missed the news
about meat and dairy products. They do, however, go as far as saying,
"Some research suggests that prostate cancer is linked to diet and
environment: men who eat fruits, vegetables and whole foods rich in
lycopene and selenium, have lower rates of cancer than those who eat a
poor diet high in saturated animal fats and red meat."
Yup, there it is again. Fruits, vegetables, and whole foods are the
key to a healthy diet. In this case, the big stars are: lycopene
(available in red fruits and vegetables - tomato, pink grapefruit,
watermelon, etc.), and selenium (available in seaweeds, nuts and seeds,
especially Brazil nuts. Two Brazil nuts a day will provide adequate
intake.)
By the way, you do realize that there is nothing in animal products
that you need for health that you cannot get somewhere else, don't you? For more information, visit Dr.

health

Electrical
Cords Contain Lead
-
I learn something new every day. I never realized that most of the
cords we use to run our electronic gadgets are made with PVC plastic,
and that most PVC contains lead! I knew that keys contain lead, because
that's one of the things you are not supposed to let birds or babies
chew on. The lead makes the metal soft enough to cut into the key
shape. Now I find out that there's lead in electrical cords, too. Even
electrical tape is made of PVC!
Here are some good tips to remember when handling the electrical cords
in your life. If you are like me, there are lots of them!
From the GreenGuide.com -
"* Do not allow children—or adults—to put earphones
or cords in their mouths.
*Always wash hands after touching cords, especially before eating.
*Test cords with a Lead Check swab, which is said to work well for
electronics.
*If you're willing, wrap earphone cords in something like
fun-patterned or brightly colored wire reinforced ribbon. This goes
over particularly well with teenage girls. Don't, however, wrap in
electrical tape. It's also PVC.
* It might be worth switching computer cords you use most, and
certainly those that test positive for lead. Call your computer's
manufacturer to see if they offer lead-free cables. If not, check
online stores that sell RoHS-compliant accessories, such as
www.pcconnection.com."

How
to Stay Healthy in the Computer Era
-
Computers offer such amazing possibilities for learning and
communicating with people all over the world that we are not likely to
give them up any time soon. Unfortunately, they are also the cause of
numerous health problems. I found a great NaturalNews article that
gives some excellent advice about how to avoid the problems, while
still enjoying the use of your computer.
Here is just one section from the article: (NaturalNews)
"As you have probably guessed, sitting for long periods of time
can, over the long term, put enough pressure on your lumbar discs to
cause chronic lower back pain. Actually, sitting for a living can put
damaging pressure on a number of structures in your lower back; a
slipped disc is the most common and easily visualized lower back
problem that can occur -- this is why we are using it as our prime
example in this section."
Here's their advice for preventing lower back problems -
"1. At least once every 20-30 minutes, stand up and stretch your
entire body lengthwise, pushing your feet into the ground and reaching
up toward the sky with your arms. Your spinal discs and bones face
three times less pressure when you are standing compared to when you
are seated. Stretching while standing further relieves your lower back
of downward pressure. If your working environment permits, go ahead and
do this stretch while lying on the ground. And don't be afraid to groan
with pleasure as you do this.
2. If possible, work with the back of your chair slightly reclined.
Reclining back so that your trunk and thighs form about a 135 degree
angle puts less stress on your spine than sitting upright at 90 degrees
or leaning forward.
3. Spend a few minutes each evening doing basic sit-ups or a
similar exercise that strengthens your abdominal muscles. Strong
abdominal muscles can help to support the weight of your trunk, thereby
taking pressure off of your lower back.
4. Spend another few minutes each evening stretching your
hamstrings, the muscles that line the back of your thighs. When tight,
your hamstrings can pull on your pelvis, which can create an unstable
lower back region that is prone to suffering sprains and strains."
It's a long article and well worth reading if you do a lot of work
on the computer. You'll find more information on protecting your neck
and shoulders, hands, wrists, and eyes.
By the way, I highly recommend wearing pinhole glasses for computer
viewing. They may look weird, but they do wonders for preventing
eyestrain. I always wear them when I'm on the computer! If you are
interested, I have a few choices offered in my Amazon store

Good
Reasons Steer Clear of Flu Shots
_
Did you know that flu shots only target specific strains of flu,
and usually NOT the strains that make people sick? Did you know that
they contain highly toxic mercury?
Here's what a recent NaturalNews article had to say about mercury,
"Side affects of mercury toxicity are vast and include depression,
memory loss, attention deficit disorder, anger, oral cavity disorders,
digestive disorder, anxiety, cardiovascular problems, respiratory
issues, thyroid and other glandular imbalances, and low immune system
to name a few." That sounds a lot worse than a case of the flu to me!
Did you also know that flu shots contain Polysorbate 80 that can
cause infertility? Hmmm, I wonder if this might be a sneaky way to
control population growth. Remember when they tried to force flu shots
on the African American school children in Maryland?
Furthermore, flu shots have been linked to a 10 times greater
incidence of Alzheimer's disease in people who received the shots for 3
to 5 consecutive years! That's not very good odds.
I personally don't think the shots are worth the risk. Sure, some
people have died of flu in the past, but we have to wonder why? Were
they living on a diet of mostly fresh, raw, whole foods? I doubt it.
Were they getting plenty of sunshine, or at least taking a vitamin D3
supplement? Did they get plenty of exercise and relaxation? Were they
enjoying life?
Nobody gets sick by accident. Our bodies are designed to self-heal,
and diseases are simply the body's attempt to clear out toxins and
waste. Flu is a cleansing process that usually includes fever,
sweating, and sometimes vomiting, all of which are designed to get
toxins out of the body as quickly and efficiently as possible. If we
suppress those symptoms, we are stopping the cleansing process and
driving the toxins deeper into the inner organs to create degenerative
disease later in life.
So, if you do get a case of flu, the best thing you can do is fast
on fresh, raw juices or water, stay warm, take appropriate homeopathic
remedies and/or immune enhancing herbs and vitamins, and let the body
do its cleansing.
Recommended remedies are -
* Oscillococcinum (homeopathic remedy) - take at the very first sign of
flu
* Mega doses of Vitamin C - 1000mg every two hours until you reach
5,000mg will usually knock out any virus (Note: don't do this for more
than a day or two or you will damage your kidneys!)
* Grapefruit juice - I don't know why, but I've found that it
makes me feel better faster than anything else, probably because it has
an alkalizing effect and "germs" can't thrive in an alkaline system.
Any grapefruit juice will do, as long as there is no sugar or other
stuff added, but fresh squeezed is best.
* Echinacia tincture - I like Eclectic Institute brand, because it
is made with fresh herbs rather than dried, but any good brand will do.
It should cause a strange tingling sensation on your tongue if it is
good quality.
For prevention -
1. Be happy!
2. Eat lots of fresh, raw, alkalizing fruits and vegetables.
3. Tell your body you are healthy. Your cells are listening!
4. Get out in the sunshine for 10 - 15 minutes a day, or take vitamin
D3 if you don't live in a sunny climate.
5. Cut out the junk food! Sugar, white flour, processed, packaged,
adulterated foods will eventually make you sick, because your body has
to eliminate all that stuff from your system and you are putting it in
faster than the body can clean it out.
6. Eliminate or cut down on animal products. You don't need them,
and they create the perfect acidic environment for flu and other
diseases to thrive.
