March HareMessage from Bernadette Wulf

Greetings,

Happy March! I don’t know about you, but life seems to be barreling along faster and faster, even though I’m not doing anything more than I was before.

I can get sucked into creating AI images for a whole day and totally lose track of time. Some people hate the whole idea of AI or even fear it, but as a lifelong artist, I find the possibilities endlessly exciting.

I’ve gotten so good at it that people have been hiring me to create images for them, with or without their face in the picture. To me that’s the ideal way to make a living (if only I had enough clients, LOL). Check out some examples here.

This Month
We have an excellent comparison between beef and plant-based burgers (guess which are healthiest), a handy guide to finding safe parchment paper, and a warning about hair dyes (with a suggestion for a safe one). I hope you will find something to uplift your life and make you healthier!

Book News
There are two books I want to recommend this month:House of Mirrors cover

  1. My own novel that is finally available on Amazon — Woo Hoo! If you like it, please leave a review so others can find it. Get it here: House of Mirrors
  2. My friend Caroline Oceana Ryan’s uplifting The Spirit of the Dragon Tribes, channeled from the Dragon tribes of higher Light

Toxic fast food wrappers on 1/3 of fast foodComparing Beef with Vegan Burgers

Lately I’m seeing a very disturbing trend in media “health & nutrition” hype. I’m guessing it is fueled by lots of money from the meat and dairy industry.

It is being promoted by RFK and Dr. Christiane Northrup among other notable names. Basically they say “seed oils bad — animal fats good,” but well-designed studies have shown over and over again that animal fats are NOT part of a healthy diet. In fact, no oils are really healthy!

The only truly healthy fats are found in whole plant foods like nuts, seeds, olives and avocados, particularly those that contain higher levels of Omega 3 fatty acids (i.e. chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts). For those who cannot transform Omega 3 into DHA and EPA, it may be helpful to take an algae-based supplement or consume cold-water fish occasionally.

I trust Dr. Greger on this, because he and his team review every nutrition study ever done in the English language and sift out the special interests and flawed studies. Here are a few links to Dr. Greger’s reports on the subject of fats and oils:

In the article linked below, Dr. Greger compares the nutritional value of beef compared to the Beyond Burger and the Impossible Burger (Note: I recommend avoiding the Impossible Burger because it is made with GMO soy and other unhealthy ingredients.)

While the Beyond Burger is not an ideal food, since it is highly processed, at least the ingredients are healthier than the Impossible Burger — and, as you will see in the article, it is far healthier than beef in every way except for the higher sodium content.

Vegan vs. Beef Burger Nutrition Facts

I think of the Beyond Burger as a transition food for people who are accustomed to the flavor and texture of meat, or maybe an occasional treat, not a staple food. Better yet, make your own veggie burgers with organic beans, gluten-free oats and/or lentils.

Remember that any non-organic beans, peas, lentils or grains are likely treated with Glyphosate which is a known carcinogen. Why take the chance?

Safe cooking on parchment paperParchment Paper Safety

Apparently, not all parchment paper is created equal! I had assumed it was all the same stuff, but this article opened my eyes.

From ForksOverKnives.com:

Uncoated Parchment Paper
Segedie’s top recommendation is to opt for uncoated parchment paper. [ ] One brand we like is Baar Patapar Cooking Parchment Paper (This is the one Edgar Cayce recommended! — Ed.)

Silicone-Coated Parchment Paper
Another option is silicone-coated parchment paper, which is treated with silicone, a food-grade synthetic polymer that is waterproof, greaseproof, and nonstick, as well. “Our tests found that silicone-coated parchment paper has non-detect[able] results for organic fluorine at 10 ppm (parts per million), so you are unlikely to find PFAS in silicone-based parchment,” says Segedie.

Brands to try:

Certified Compostable Parchment
Another way to find parchment paper that is relatively low in PFAS is to look for a “certified compostable” label. Compostable certification organizations usually allow only up to 100 ppm total organic fluorine in paper products.

Hair dye dangersHair Dye Dangers

Is it worth risking cancer to color  your hair? I sure don’t think so.

From NaturalHealth365.com:

Some of the risks and side effects of the chemicals found in hair dyes include cancers of the kidney, bladder, and breast, as well as blood-based cancers like leukemia and lymphoma.

[ ] one of the common chemicals used, called P-phenylenediamine (PPD), is documented as causing side effects like asthma, gastritis, severe dermatitis, eye irritation, vertigo, tremors, convulsions, kidney failure, and coma in those who are exposed to it.

[ ] another synthetic hair dye pigment, 4-Chloro-orthophenylenediamine (4-Cl-OPD), can cause significant DNA damage when exposed to high nitric oxide levels.  Researchers found that this damage leads to structural changes in DNA, triggering immune system reactions in those with prolonged hair dye use.

Let’s face it. Most people are not just going to have their hair dyed once or twice in a lifetime. Dying tends to be repeated every few weeks to cover up those pesky roots. The more often it is repeated, the more exposure to toxic chemicals you have!

Fortunately, the article goes on to say,  “Hairprint is a natural hair color brand developed by award-winning chemist John Warner.  Instead of harsh chemicals, it contains non-toxic, plant-based, food-grade pigments and minerals.” Ask your hairdresser for this natural alternative and cut your cancer risk way down!
