Message from Bernadette Wulf
Greetings,
Happy Celtic New Year and beginning of winter (here in the Northern Hemisphere).
This evening (Pacific Time) we are opening Faehallows Magical Circle with our very first New Moon-Samhain circle.
We will be setting the tone for the upcoming month and the year ahead.
I’m also planning a special Samhain Ancestor workshop for November 10th entitled: Healing Your Ancestral Line — and who knows? You may discover some faeries among your ancestors!
Sign up for membership here: https://www.celticmysteryschool.com/membership/ and you’ll also get a free copy of my new Ebook Dancing with the Moon.
In Health News
This month we have a few articles of particular interest to women, including the side effects of birth control pills and a new safer breast cancer detection technology.
Osteoporosis affects both women and men, but it is more of an issue for post-menopausal women. And glyphosate is a serious concern for everyone, whether women, men or children. Find out how to protect yourself.

Glyphosate & Kidney Damage
Seems like everything Monsanto creates is designed to make them money while undermining human health and the environment.
Glyphosate may be the worst example, though they promoted it as being perfectly safe. I remember when one of their top executives even claimed to drink it! (I wonder how his kidneys are doing now.)
Here’s a report from NaturalHealth365.com:
One man from Sri Lanka – Dr. Channa Jayasumana – worked with two colleagues to investigate the source of CKDu in his country. To start, the team recognized that CKDu is affiliated with kidney tubule damage, which is not normally found in patients with chronic kidney disease brought on by diet or conditions like hypertension.
They also assumed that because the disease first appeared in the mid-1990s, a toxic agent must have been introduced to the country sometime within the previous 30 years to have led to kidney damage. Finally, the substance had to protect heavy metals in groundwater and safely transport them through the liver and into the kidneys.
Their research led them to glyphosate, an herbicide that meets all the criteria for the offending agent and is used widely throughout Sri Lanka. First developed to remove mineral build-up in boiler pipes, glyphosate was never intended to be used in farming.
Glyphosate is everywhere these days, so it’s impossible to avoid. They even found it in our well water!
To avoid glyphosate as much as possible, buy organic Non-GMO certified foods, particularly grains and beans and filter your water if you live in an agricultural area.

Better Breast Cancer Detection
There is a lot of evidence that mammograms can do more harm than good, so this new Koning Vera Breast CT technology is a welcome development. It’s less invasive and more accurate, so a win win all the way around.
Here’s what NiceNews.com posted about it:
Developed by Georgia-based imaging technology company Koning Health, the Koning Vera Breast CT produces high-resolution, 3D photos in 7 seconds and doesn’t compress the breasts the way a mammogram does — making for a more comfortable patient experience and allowing providers to identify tumors with greater accuracy.

Preventing Osteoporosis
Bone health becomes more and more of a concern as we get older, but brittle bones are not inevitable.
Here are a few tips to help your bones stay strong:
- eat lots of leafy greens — they are high in calcium and alkaline minerals that keep bones strong
- avoid meat, eggs, dairy products, excess protein and junk food, all of which create acid in the body, causing alkaline minerals to be leached from bones. Yes, even dairy products! In fact, the countries with the highest consumption of dairy tend to have the highest osteoporosis rates.
- Get weight bearing exercise every day — walking, running and weight lifting are excellent, but swimming, and bicycling are not much help to your bones.
- Make sure you are getting enough vitamins D3 and B12.
- Eat plenty of alkaline-forming foods like fruits, vegetables and millet.
Here’s what FoodRevolution.org said about keeping bones strong:
Many factors can contribute to the process by which bones weaken over time.
Some of the factors are out of our control. These include being over the age of 50, being female, being postmenopausal, having a family history of osteoporosis, and having a small frame. Hormone changes that occur naturally with age may also increase osteoporosis risk, specifically the increase in parathyroid hormone, which controls calcium and phosphorus levels in your bones.
There are also some lifestyle factors we do have control over that can contribute to osteoporosis risk. Smoking, leading an inactive lifestyle, being under or overweight, drinking excessive alcohol, not eating enough fruits and veggies, and eating large amounts of protein and sodium, as well as not getting enough calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, or vitamin B12 can all raise your risk for osteoporosis.
Certain medications may also promote bone loss and osteoporosis.

Are Birth Control Pills Safe?
I am all in favor of eliminating unwanted pregnancies so every child is welcomed into a loving home. The birth control pill has been instrumental in making that possible for so many women and families. However, it is far from the ideal solution.
Check out what NaturalHealth365 posted recently:
In addition to emotional recognition difficulties and depression, common adverse effects and risk factors of the pill include:
-
- Weight gain and a decrease in lean body mass
- Decrease a woman’s sex drive
- Increased risk of cancer, including cervical, breast, liver, ovarian and endometrial cancers
- Increased risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots), and high blood pressure
- Headaches and migraines
The good news is that there are other options like fertility awareness and various prophylactics available. Though they are less convenient, they may save you from a lot of pain and heartache in the future.
This is definitely a decision to make with as much awareness and unbiased information as you can find.
