Message from Bernadette Wulf
Greetings,
It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy!
It’s hard to believe both of my grandsons prefer winter — how could they be related to me? Personally, I’m reveling in the nice warm weather and renewed life in my garden.
Let me know what you are up to. I love hearing from my readers!
Happenings in the Wulfsphere
My big news this month (at very long last) is the pre-launch of my novel, House of Mirrors. I am looking for Beta readers who are willing to:
- give me constructive feedback (no matter how large or small)
- and/or — post a review (if you like the book) on Amazon when I make it available on Kindle — I’ll warn you before the launch date so you can be prepared
If that sounds like fun to you, go HERE to get your copy. Or copy and paste this link: https://wulfworks.aweb.page/p/20d61930-e204-4951-821c-4b00ad8e6f93
Health News
This month I found an interesting article about how gums and emulsifiers in food can lead to diabetes, another one about the role of viruses in Alzheimer’s disease, and finally a whole list of nasty chemicals added to laundry detergents that I hope you will avoid from now on.
We have so many toxins we can’t avoid, so why not avoid the ones we can? Right?
Have questions or comments? —>>> Email Bernadette <<<— Please use this link and do not hit reply to this post or I may never get your message.
To your health and happiness!

Gums & Emulsifiers in Food Raise Diabetes Risk
With the rising rates of type 2 diabetes, it’s time we started eliminating the causes!
Unlike type 1 diabetes that often has no cure, type 2 has been shown to be very responsive to lifestyle changes.
In fact, Dr. Neal Barnard and others have reversed type 2 diabetes routinely by getting patients to eat a low-fat, whole plant foods diet.
Why does that work? Because eating excess fats is the main cause of type 2 diabetes. Fats block the insulin receptors of the cells, so sugar cannot be absorbed and it builds up to dangerous levels in the blood.
You can restrict sugar intake to prevent blood sugar spikes (which is what most medical approaches recommend), but that doesn’t solve the underlying problem. Until the excess fat is removed, the patient will still have diabetes.
What About Gums & Emulsifiers?
I’m guessing that all these gums and emulsifiers in commercial foods may also block insulin receptors.
Even the so called “natural” guar gum is listed as a factor in increased diabetes risk. Check your ingredient labels!
We’re talking commercial plant milks, mayo, breads, many gluten free products, ice cream, yogurt, dressings and sauces, vegan cheese substitutes, and pretty much any commercial product with a thick, smooth consistency.
Corporate producers only care about their bottom line, not your health. They will trick you into eating dangerous emulsifiers and chemicals just to keep their production costs down and the profits rolling in. Sometimes they even imply that these ingredients are good for you.
Let the buyer beware!
Here’s what naturalhealth365.com reports:
After an average follow-up of seven years, the analysis revealed that specific emulsifiers were associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes:
-
- Gum arabic increased the risk by 3% per 1,000 mg consumed.
- Carrageenans increased the risk by 3% per 100 mg consumed.
- Acid esters contained in fatty acids increased the risk by 4% per 100 mg consumed.
- Sodium citrate increased the risk by 4% per 500 mg consumed.
- Xanthan gum increased the risk by 8% per 500 mg consumed.
- Guar gum increased the risk by 11% per 500 mg consumed.
- Tripotassium phosphate increased the risk by 15% per 500 mg consumed.
I will definitely be more vigilant about avoiding gums after reading this.

Alzheimer’s & Viruses
What do CMV, HSV, VZV and EBV all have in common?
Well, they are all viruses and they are all widespread, but recent research also links all of them to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
From naturalhealth365.com:
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is one of the causes of mononucleosis, commonly known as the ‘kissing disease,’ alongside Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). While the symptoms of mononucleosis typically subside after a few weeks or months, research published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases suggests that both CMV and EBV may silently contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.
The Journal of Neurovirology reported data that demonstrated HSV-1 [herpes simplex virus] infection induces early upstream events in the neuronal cells that eventually lead to amyloid-ß deposition and tau hyperphosphorylation – suggesting it is a possible risk for Alzheimer’s. [ ]
The Neurobiology of Aging journal also reported that HSV-2 infection leads to all major pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists proved that HSV-2 strongly alters the tau phosphorylation state, amyloid-ß precursor protein, and autophagy process in human neuroblastoma cells, leading to the appearance of Alzheimer’s disease-like neurodegeneration markers.
There’s more!
The article goes on to say that the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), that usually manifests itself as chickenpox (varicella) in children, can infect a wide variety of cell types in the central and peripheral nervous system, which explains the virus’ diversity of clinical disorders, including its contribution to Alzheimer’s.
And that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is also a risk factor for cognitive weakening and the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Viruses Stay with Us for LIfe!
Since most of us have been exposed to one or even all of these viruses in our lifetimes, what can we do to protect ourselves from the threat of developing Alzheimer’s?
The good news is that we have some really good anti-viral protocols from Anthony William, the Medical Medium that can keep viruses at bay for a lifetime.
I’ve personally experienced dramatic benefits from following his basic protocols. That means avoiding foods that feed viruses, namely: pork, eggs, dairy, gluten and GMOs (specifically soy, corn, canola oil).
If you have more serious health issues, he has many different protocols to address specific problems in his books.

Top Toxins to Avoid in Laundry Detergent
There is a long list of toxic chemicals used in laundry products that can undermine your health. You can smell many of them as you walk down the detergent isle in just about any grocery store.
They may make your clothes look brighter or maybe you like the smell of the fancy fragrances they add, but all these chemicals are putting a big strain on your liver, and some of them can end up in your brain.
Here’s the abbreviated list from theartofantiaging.com:
-
- Fragrance
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
- 1,4 Dioxane
- Benzene
- Formaldehyde
- Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs)
- Bleach
- Optical Brighteners
- Ammonium Sulfates and Other Surfactants
- Quats
- Artificial Dyes
So how to avoid them? There is one good option listed at the end of the article. You’ll find more animal and eco-friendly options here — https://www.worldofvegan.com/vegan-laundry-detergent/#Eco-Friendly_Vegan_Laundry_Detergent_Sheets
