Celebrate the little things - healitall newsletterGreetings!

What a strange month May has been – from a worldwide quarantine to rioting in the streets of America. Let’s hope June brings a new wave of peace and joy to heal our troubled world.

I’ve been feeling more and more clear that my work is not to take sides in the political, racial, medical, or sociological debates that are raging all around us. My work is to hold the energy of harmony, balance, and compassion as much as I possibly can. It may not seem like much from an external standpoint, but on an inner level, it is the most powerful work we can do right now.

I invite you all to join me. There is strength in numbers when people unite in a common cause. Even if nobody else knows what we are doing, we are helping to shape a new and better reality for all.

Harmony – Balance – Compassion

This month we will look at a possible explanation and treatment for the COVID-19 virus and how you may be able to protect yourself, an overview of chemical toxins you might find in your home, the best sunscreens for kids (and you), how vitamin D can help keep your muscles strong, and sneaky places Mad Cow Disease may be lurking in your cosmetics. Ugh!

Stay safe, stay healthy, and find things to appreciate. You will discover that it really is a beautiful world when you unplug from the media and find things to enjoy right in your own backyard.

To your health and happiness!

Blood and COVID-19Is COVID-19 a Blood Vessel Disease?

Here’s an interesting new theory about COVID-19 that may lead to a more effective treatment. It looks like the virus attacks the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels. But what if the endothelial cells are already damaged from other causes? Wouldn’t that make symptoms of the virus much worse? Perhaps that could account for the high mortality among older people and those with preexisting conditions.

It could also account for the higher disease rates in countries that predominantly eat a high-fat Western diet. Why? Because dietary fats, particularly oils, damage endothelial cells.

Dr. Esselstyn has done a lot of studies on oils and endothelial function, as you will hear in this short video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg5zcy20AAI. His conclusions show that eating oils (whether so-called healthy virgin olive oil, or junky, chemically extracted canola oil) damages endothelial cells and prevents blood vessels from expanding. It appears that other high fat foods may cause similar damage, i.e. eggs, dairy, meat. Keep all this in mind as you read the following article.

From elemental.medium.com:

Endothelial damage might account for the high rates of cardiovascular damage and seemingly spontaneous heart attacks in people with Covid-19, too. Damage to endothelial cells causes inflammation in the blood vessels, and that can cause any plaque that’s accumulated to rupture, causing a heart attack. This means anyone who has plaque in their blood vessels that might normally have remained stable or been controlled with medication is suddenly at a much higher risk for a heart attack.

“Inflammation and endothelial dysfunction promote plaque rupture,” Sethi says. “Endothelial dysfunction is linked towards worse heart outcomes, in particular myocardial infarction or heart attack.”

Blood vessel damage could also explain why people with pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease are at a higher risk for severe complications from a virus that’s supposed to just infect the lungs. All of those diseases cause endothelial cell dysfunction, and the additional damage and inflammation in the blood vessels caused by the infection could push them over the edge and cause serious problems.

Of course the article concludes with the Big Pharma drug solution of using statins and ACE inhibitors to treat COVID-19 patients – and that may indeed be necessary for those with compromised blood vessels. Wouldn’t it be a lot better, though, to avoid putting yourself in that situation in the first place by sticking to a low fat (10 – 20% calories from fat) whole food diet? Makes sense to me.

Toxic chemicals in your homeHidden Chemicals Make You Sick

If you have symptoms that you just can’t seem to relieve, no matter how well you eat and exercise, it is likely that chemical toxins are making you sick. Unfortunately, our world is riddled with them. From inhaled fumes at the gas pump, to perfume counters and the local shopping mall, it is almost impossible to avoid toxic chemicals anymore.

The good news is that a lot of toxic chemicals are found right in our homes and those are easy to eliminate. Start reading ingredients on cleaning products and body care products. If you can smell it and it is not made from 100% natural ingredients, get rid of it.

Here’s a list from medicalmedium.com to get you started:

Chemical Industry Domestic Invaders are just one group of troublemakers that can make us sick. Let’s take a look at the troublemakers in this group:

• Aerosol can air fresheners
• Cologne and aftershave
• Conventional cleaning products
• Conventional hair dye
• Conventional laundry detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets
• Conventional makeup
• Conventionally scented body lotions, creams, sprays, washes, and deodorants
• Conventionally scented shampoos, conditioners, gels, and other hair products
• Dry cleaning chemicals
• Hairspray
• Nail chemicals (such as polish, remover, adhesive)
• Perfume
• Plug-in air fresheners
• Scented candles
• Spray tan
• Spray-bottle air fresheners and mists
• Talcum powder

Other toxins that may be lurking in your home include, synthetic carpets and carpet cleaners, black mold, paint fumes, pesticides, fire retardants on furniture, and more. The less toxins in your environment, the less work your liver will have to do to keep you feeling your best. (Be sure to dispose of these products at a toxic waste site rather than adding them to the landfill.)

Best 2020 sun screens - Sunshine prevents heart disease - DIY sunscreenEWG Best Sunscreen for Kids – And YOU!

Sunshine is important for health and vitamin D production, but we can get too much of a good thing. build muscle with carbs & Vitamin DVitamin D for Muscle Strength

Speaking of the sunshine vitamin, did you know that vitamin D is important for your muscles as well as for bone strength? Unfortunately, our muscles tend to lose vitamin D as we age, which may be one of the reasons for muscle weakness and resulting falls in the elderly. The American Geriatric Society says we should be taking 4,000 units of vitamin D3 per day, though most people can do fine on 1,000 units.

Another interesting indicator of risk for falling is whether you can walk and talk at the same time. Here’s what Dr. Greger has to say about it:

We’ve known for about 20 years that older men and women who stop walking when a conversation starts are at particularly high risk of falling. Over a six-month timeframe, few who could walk and talk at the same time would go on to fall, but 80 percent of those who stopped walking when a conversation was initiated ended up falling…

I wonder if that also applies to being able to walk and chew gum, LOL.

Bottom line, exercise is even more helpful in preserving muscle and bone strength, as well as preventing falls, but we don’t have to choose. We can take vitamin D, spend some time in the sun most days, and get a little exercise for a triple win!

Mad Cow Disease - Are Beef and Dairy Causing Breast Cancer?Mad Cow in Your Lipstick?

We don’t hear much about Mad Cow Disease anymore, but that doesn’t mean it has vanished from the face of the earth. In fact, according to this nutritionfacts.org article, there are thousands of people already infected:

The latest estimates from Britain suggest 15,000 people are currently incubating the human form of mad cow disease, contracted through the consumption of infected meat. Fewer than 200 Brits have died so far of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, but the incubation period for this invariably fatal neurodegenerative disease—that is, the time between eating the meat and one’s brain filling up with holes—can be decades.

These people are all carriers who could potentially infect other people. Even more concerning is the probability that the infection is still found in cattle:

In the end, the FDA “tentatively” concluded that intestines should continue to be allowed in the food and cosmetic supply because “[o]nly trace amounts of infectivity have been found” throughout the bowels of cattle. The agency had to come to that conclusion because, otherwise, the meat would have to be banned as well.

As I understand it, a trace can still cause infection, but you might not realize you had contracted it for decades. If still you choose to eat beef, you should at least be aware that you are taking that risk, but few would think that their lipstick and soap bars could also be risky.

Once again, I come around to the same conclusion: ingesting animal products is risky business, even if you are just licking off your cherry flavored lipstick. Always read the labels – or just support vegan cosmetic companies!
