Message from Bernadette Wulf
I’m ready for summer! How about you? No matter whether you start your summer with the Celtic May Day/Beltane, or wait until the Summer Solstice, the long days and warm weather are finally upon us here in the northern hemisphere. To me, that is cause for celebration.
Things have been getting really interesting in my life. I’ll continue to send out your monthly newsletter – because there are so many important and fascinating things we can all learn about staying healthy – but I’m also stepping into a much bigger picture.
Can’t say too much about that yet, but it has to do with connecting with a network of Soul Gardeners who want to help plant seeds of Paradise on Earth. I can already see it, just on the other side of the etheric veils, waiting for us to plant the vision in our reality. It is what inspires my art.
This is the next step for humanity, and you and I can be the harbingers – the heralds and way-showers of the New Reality… if we so choose. What could be more fun? (Email Bernadette if you want to be added to the Soul Gardeners email list.)
This month we have some fascinating articles about causes and prevention of Parkinson’s Disease, how Zinc boosts Immunity, the importance of Dental Health and how to achieve it naturally, an examination of Dogs and Vaccines that also applies to humans, and the real causes of Candida overgrowth (hint – it’s not eating fruit!).
I would love to hear what you want to read about. Feel free to send your requests, suggestions, questions, or any sort of feedback. I always appreciate hearing from my readers – Please do not reply to this email, but use this link Email Bernadette to contact me.
To your health and happiness!

Parkinson’s – Are You Constipated?
We all know that constipation is not good for us, but did you know that it is a predictor of Parkinson’s Disease?
The article talks about dehydration as a cause of constipation, and that is a very important factor. However, there are two other important causes that are easy to correct.
- Lack of fiber – eating refined flours, sugar, dairy products, eggs, and meat, all of which are lacking in fiber
- Food sensitivities – these are different for everyone, but the most common culprits are: eggs, dairy, soy, wheat & gluten, corn, canola oil, nuts, and pork
From NutritionFacts.org:
Dr. James Parkinson himself, [ ] described a characteristic feature of the disease: constipation, which may precede the diagnosis by many years. In fact, bowel movement frequency may be predictive. Men with less than one bowel movement a day were four times more like likely to develop Parkinson’s an average of 12 years later.
Relying on laxatives will only weaken your digestive system, so it is important to learn what your body needs to keep waste moving through regularly – at least once a day. Try eliminating some or all of the foods listed above and increase your high-fiber foods.
Drink plenty of water. I like to start with a quart first thing in the morning with lemon juice, and at least another quart through the rest of the day. You may need more, depending on your weight and activity level. Ideally, drink half an ounce of water for every pound of body weight and more if you are active or the weather is hot. Your body will thank you!
High fiber foods will not only lower your chances of developing Parkinson’s, but will also provide essential nutrition for a healthy microbiome – those all important gut bacteria.
The article goes on to describe how pesticides contribute to the development of Parkinson’s Disease and the protective value of berries. It is well worth reading.

Zinc for Immunity
I never thought much about zinc until I started reading the Medical Medium material. Wow! What a difference it made when I started taking a zinc supplement. I went from catching every bug that went around to not catching anything in over two years – no colds, no flu bugs, nothing.
I was exposed to just as many bugs, and there was a really nasty flu going around, but I was able to avoid all of it. I took Good State Ionic Zinc – just squirt a dropper full in a glass of water once a day. You can take a few more if you feel like you are fighting off a bug.
Pumpkin seeds can be a good source of zinc, but unfortunately most of our soil has been stripped of important minerals, so almost everyone should be taking a zinc supplement.
I also took lots of EsterC when I had to be around people with colds or flu – like 5000 units a day, or more. Sticking to the Medical Medium diet protocols probably helped too, since I was no longer bombarding my body with foods that stressed out my immune system.
Since childhood I’ve had a sluggish liver, so this article caught my interest. From naturalhealth365.com:
In addition to its other responsibilities, zinc plays a pivotal role in maintenance of liver function. Unfortunately, chronic liver disease depletes zinc levels in a variety of ways. It can affect appetite – and dietary intake of zinc – while impairing proper absorption of nutrients and increasing urinary excretion.
Unsurprisingly, research has found that serum concentrations of zinc decline steadily as liver disease progresses. Clearly, the current national prevalence of fatty liver disease showcases the need for sufficient intake of zinc.
How much zinc do I need a day?
The USDA advises 11 mg of zinc a day for men, and 8 mg for women – with a tolerable upper limit of 40 mg a day.
If your immune system seems to be on the blink, or you have a history of liver dysfunction, you might want to give zinc a try. It can make a world of difference.

Dental Health & Artery Disease
This article is focused on children, but it holds true for adults as well. Oral infections can cause heart disease and hardening of the arteries.
From naturalhealth365.com:
Atherosclerosis, a narrowing and hardening of the arteries, slowly and silently results in blockages that can eventually lessen or cut off blood flow. It’s a common cause of stroke, heart attack, and peripheral vascular disease – together known as heart disease.
And, while we already know that atherosclerosis is largely preventable, one new study suggests that the prevention of this life-threatening condition may begin in childhood. A recent 27-year follow-up study found that oral infections in children raised the risk of atherosclerosis when children became adults.

Facts About Dogs (& Humans)
Don’t believe everything your doctor tells you… or your veterinarian. Vet schools are funded by the same pharmaceutical companies that fund medical schools. Most doctors and vets never hear the holistic side of the health debate, or learn about the holistic solutions that are available – and often superior to pharmaceutical drugs.
I am not anti vaccine, but I think they are grossly overused to the detriment of our pets and children alike. When used wisely, they can save lives, but they can also undermine the natural ability of the body to heal itself and resist disease.
If you do decide to vaccinate, ask your vet for a titer to determine whether your pet really needs a booster every year. Most often they will not, since most vaccines are effective for at least seven years.
From dogsnaturallymagazine.com:
…the American Animal Hospital Association’s own Preventive Healthcare Guidelines state:
Tailor vaccination protocols to your pet. [ ] In some scenarios, a titer to previous vaccines can be measured to help decide if a booster vaccination is necessary.
Here are five misconceptions often promoted by vets and doctors alike. From dogsnaturallymagazine.com:
- Vaccination And Immunization Are The Same
- Vaccinating Puppies At 6 Weeks Of Age is Recommended
- Lifelong Immunity Requires Annual Boosters
- Revaccination Is Backed By Research
- Your Vet Is A Vaccine Expert
Of course these misconceptions also apply to cats – and children!
The article offers important rebuttals to these statements and I hope you will inform yourself by reading the entire article, for your pet’s sake and your own. The more we know about this controversial issue, the better decisions we can make for ourselves and our loved ones, including pets.

The Truth About Candida
We hear a lot about Candida in the fat vs. fruit debate that has been promoted by paleo and ketogenic diet fans. They claim that Candida thrives on sugars, so they warn people against eating fruit, but fruit is not the culprit. According to Anthony William, the Medical Medium, “Candida does not feed on sugar unless it is from a grain such as corn or wheat, and it does not feed on natural fruit sugar.”
Sure, Candida can get out of control if we eat too many refined carbohydrates, but Candida is really just trying to help us by “consuming debris from poor quality food and toxins.” The real culprits are actually the refined foods we eat and the viruses and bacteria that thrive on them.
From medicalmedium.com:
In other words, Candida cells intentionally consume food waste and poisons to prevent harmful bugs, such as E. coli, C. diff, and Streptococcus, from feasting on these things and building their armies. Candida can also co-occur with conditions such as Lyme disease, shingles, Epstein-Barr virus, herpes, diabetes, and more. Thus, a large build-up of Candida can serve as a warning sign that something else in your body requires attention—but Candida is often the scapegoat. [ ] Once you put an end to the primary issue, Candida levels will naturally return to normal.
The fact is that fruit actually helps fight Candida overgrowth and it is essential for long term health. Fat, on the other hand, is only needed in small quantities and only in the forms of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. Too much fat (over about 15% of our calories) will overload the liver and can lead to fatty liver disease, heart disease, diabetes, and many other degenerative diseases.
