Message from Bernadette Wulf

Greetings!

I must admit, I’ve been procrastinating about writing this newsletter, because of the technological challenges that have recently come up. But hey, I did finally post a bunch of my recent paintings yesterday while I was procrastinating. Check them out here – http://www.wulfworks.net/galleries/new-art. That’s one of them on the left, called She Watches through the Veil.

Painting and gardening have been keeping me sane lately, and I’ve really been enjoying being outside in the early summer weather. It is always a challenge to pull myself away from the computer when it is cold and grey outdoors, but now I can hardly keep myself inside long enough to finish writing this newsletter. The sunshine is calling.

I hope you find something useful in the articles this month!

As always, I would love to hear what you want to read about. Feel free to send your requests, suggestions, questions, or any sort of feedback. I always appreciate hearing from my readers – Email Bernadette

To your health and happiness!

blueberries for health and healingBlueberries Are Best!

According to Anthony William, the Medical Medium, wild blueberries are the most healing food on the planet. Fortunately, they are not the sort of health food that you have to choke down every day. They are delicious!

FoodRevolution.org seems to agree. Here are excerpts from their latest article on blueberries:

1. Berries Stop Heart Attacks According to a study published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association eating at least three servings of blueberries and strawberries every week can save women from heart attacks.

2. Lower Blood Pressure With Blueberries Blueberries can lower your blood pressure. Researchers conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial on 48 post-menopausal women with pre-hypertension or stage one hypertension.

3. Wild Blueberries Boost Vascular Health A study from Florida State University found that a daily serving of blueberries could be key to fighting cardiovascular disease in women.

And in another study, researchers from England and Germany proved that less than a cup of wild blueberries can have an almost immediate and long-lasting effect on how well your vascular system is circulating blood.

4. Prevent Cancer With Blueberries A study in the journal Nutrition Research found that daily blueberries increase natural killer (NK) cells. NK cells are white blood cells that play a critical role in the immune system’s defense against foreign invaders like viruses and tumors.

5. Berries Protect Lungs Over 16 years, it found that men who ate two or more servings of blueberries a week had up to 37.9 percent less decline in their lung function compared to those who ate no or very little blueberries.

6. Berries Improve Insulin Sensitivity A double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled clinical study in The Journal of Nutrition found that bioactive compounds in blueberries improve insulin sensitivity.

7. Blueberries Keep Your Brain Young A study in the Annals of Neurology found that anthocyanins in blueberries can slow brain aging by up to 2.5 years.

There’s a lot more information on the page. I just pulled out the highlights. Click the link below to find out more about blueberries – https://foodrevolution.org/blog/are-blueberries-good-for-you

Missing magnesium - Ketosis Dangers - healitall.comMissing Magnesium

If you are like most people, you are probably deficient in magnesium. Unless you eat lots of green vegetables and whole foods, or take a good supplement like magnesium glycinate, you will have a really hard time getting enough magnesium. Look at all the problems deficiency can cause – according to greenmedinfo.com they are: Migraines, heart disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, colon cancer, osteoporosis, and metabolic syndrome. Those are some serious issues. I would also add sore muscles, muscle cramps, and insomnia to the list.

The greenmedinfo.com article goes on to say:

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include constipation and other digestive problems, low energy, and irregularities in menstrual flow and reproductive health, and migraine headaches

Magnesium also relaxes the body from tightness, tension, tics, spasms, cramps and stiffness.  And it helps prevent the buildup of plaque on your teeth, in your heart and arteries, and even in your brain.

The recommended daily allowance for magnesium is 420 mg for men or 320 mg for women.  But it’s estimated that between 80% and 90% of Americans are magnesium deficient.  One government study showed that 68% of American women do not consume the recommended daily amount of magnesium.  Almost 20% don’t even get half of the recommended amount.[xiii]

In addition, the use of oral contraceptives, diuretics, and laxatives can make magnesium deficiencies worse.

The good news is that there is actually a lot of magnesium in whole plant foods. Dark chocolate is a favorite source, but remember that most of it is contaminated with heavy metals.

  • According to greenmedinfo.org, the best sources are:
    • Dried seaweeds
    • Dark leafy greens (especially collards, spinach and Swiss chard)
    • Broccoli
    • Beans
    • Whole grains (especially millet, brown rice and quinoa)
    • Almonds, cashews, and filberts
    • Sesame seeds
    • Lentils
    • Avocados
    • Wheatgrass
    • Spirulina and chlorella [Anthony William says to avoid chlorella – Ed.]

Of course, most of those foods also have amazing health benefits in other ways, so eat up. Read more about magnesium here – http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/7-reasons-get-more-magnesium

sulphur rich vegetables support liver functionAnti-Cancer Diet

What do Holy Basil, black pepper, red tomatoes, broccoli sprouts, turmeric, green tea, vitamin D, blueberries, ginger, milk thistle, apples, and red cabbage have in common? You guessed it. They all have lots of potent phytonutrients that fight cancer.

I’ve been hearing about more and more people with cancer lately. Just lost a friend to it a few days ago, even though she had the best of care. She was a decade younger than me, so it has been on my mind a lot. I learned from Anthony William that cancer is caused by a combination of toxins and virus. Most of us have both, because of industrial pollution and our faulty diets. That makes us ticking time bombs, unless we do something to reverse those odds.

I highly recommend the Medical Medium protocols for clearing out heavy metals and viruses with diet (as you can probably tell). As far as I have found, it’s the best protection you can give yourself, along with a positive attitude. In addition to that, there are certain phytonutrients that are especially helpful in preventing or fighting cancer. Here they are, from thetruthaboutcancer.com:

  • 12 nutrients to consume daily:
    1. Ursolic Acid [found in holy basil and apple peels]
    2. Piperine [found in black pepper]
    3. Lycopene [found in pink grapefruit, red tomatoes, watermelon]
    4. Isothiocyanates [found in cabbage family vegetables – especially broccoli sprouts]
    5. Curcumin [found in turmeric]
    6. EGCG [found in Matcha green tea]
    7. Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) [found in sunshine and D3 supplements]
    8. Resveratrol [found in skins of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries]
    9. 6-Gingerol [found in ginger – duh]
    10. Silymarin [found in milk thistle]
    11. Quercetin [found in apples, red onions, green tea, raspberries and dark tomatoes]
    12. Anthocyanins [found in berries, grapes, red cabbage, red onions, eggplant, tea, and some oranges]

As you can see, the same foods that are great for general health are also good cancer fighters. It is also important to get regular exercise (note to self!) and to avoid as many environmental toxins as possible, including in your skin-care products and household cleaners.

And did you know that eggs, dairy, pork, gluten, soy, canola oil, and corn (or any GMO food) will feed viruses in your body? If you are serious about fighting or avoiding cancer, it is important to eliminate those foods right away. I don’t want you to become another cancer statistic!

Coffee ormoldy coffee machines Mold?

Convenient as it may seem, the Keurig coffee machine may be a disaster, both for the environment and for your health. Not only does it contribute to massive waste with all the plastic coffee containers, it may also poison you with chemicals leaching out of that plastic as the hot water runs through it. On top of all that, your Keurig coffee machine is probably full of mold!

When people have opened their machines to see inside, they found varying amounts of mold. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to clean or dry it out once water has been trapped inside. As you probably know, most molds are toxic!

I suppose there is also mold in those counter-top espresso machines. I’m kind of glad that mine recently died. I won’t be getting a new one. I don’t drink coffee very often anymore, and when I do I will stick to a “pour over” with my ceramic cone and natural bamboo filters.

Once you read this article, I’m sure you will want to avoid using these Keurig machines at home or at the office – http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/why-i-kicked-my-keurig-curb

Apple for health7 Top Nutrient Deficiencies

Here’s a list of the 7 most common nutrient deficiencies found in the developed world. Notice that protein is not listed! These statistics are not from people who are starving or deprived. These are from “healthy” people like you and me, even serious athletes.

The following list is from a supplement company and when you go to their page, they’ll offer to sell you their solution, but most of these nutrients can easily be found in whole foods. The only supplement I would absolutely recommend for everyone is vitamin B12, because our modern food cleanliness removes the sources of it from most of our food – and deficiency can lead to serious health problems.

Here’s the list from https://organixx.com/nutrient-deficiency – I will add my own comments:

#1 – Iron. [Be sure to get tested before supplementing with iron. Too much can be worse that too little. Widely available in leafy greens, beans, lentils, whole grains, and fruit. A bit harder to absorb from plant sources, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get enough. For best absorption, combine iron-rich foods with foods high in vitamin C, acids (lemon, lime, grapefruit, apple cider vinegar), and/or fermented foods like sauerkraut. If deficient, organic non-GMO Blackstrap Molasses from sugar cane can be a helpful supplement. – Ed.]

#2 – Vitamin E: According to a 2009 report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), a whopping 86% of the American population does not meet the U.S. recommended daily allowance (RDA) for this vital substance. [Abundantly available in all nuts, seeds, grains, beans, and also in their sprouts. – Ed.]

#3 – Vitamin A. [Vitamin A is made from the beta-carotene in dark leafy greens, carrots, yams, and other deeply colored fruits and vegetables – best absorbed when cooked, or blended, and eaten with a small amount of fat. – Ed.]

#4 – Vitamin D. One study found that sufficient levels of Vitamin D led to a 80% reduction in breast cancer! [Unless you are frequently out in the sun with a lot of exposed skin, you will probably have to supplement with a good quality D3 supplement. – Ed.]

#5 – Magnesium. The latest studies suggest that roughly 68% of all Americans are deficient in magnesium and up to 20% may suffer from severe deficiency. [Widely available in whole foods – green leafy vegetables, brown rice, spinach, beans, almonds, figs, broccoli, oatmeal, whole grains, bananas, peanuts, dark chocolate – Ed.]

#6 – Vitamin C. [ ] important for the cardiovascular system since it is needed for the absorption of iron from food. [Abundant in all raw fruits and vegetables, and particularly high in raw sprouts. Try to eat something raw at every meal. Vitamin C is destroyed by heat. – Ed.]

#7 – Vitamin B12. There are 8 B vitamins in all and all of them combined influence just about every single mechanism in the body. Getting enough vitamin B12 is especially important for the nervous system and brain health. [As I said, this is one nutrient that almost everyone needs to supplement, even if you eat animal products. It is a water soluble vitamin, so don’t worry about getting too much. Any excess will simply be flushed out of your body.  The best B-12 supplement includes both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. VeganSafe is an excellent brand (whether you are vegan or not). – Ed.]
