Find Your Own Ideal Weight

Here's a little known fact about why the body stores fat - the more acidic the body becomes, the more fat it has to store in order to keep the pH balance of your blood in the narrow range that can support life. Acid-forming foods are meat, eggs, fish, sugar, corn syrup, most grains, pasteurized milk and dairy products, most nuts, most beans, fried foods, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, recreational drugs, all artificial preservatives and flavorings, and pretty much anything you find for sale in a box or bag. Sounds like the typical American diet, doesn't it?

Not only will this acid-forming diet make you fat, it will undermine your health in multiple ways, leading to osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, lowered immunity, and auto-immune diseases. Why? Because the body has to work a lot harder to maintain its pH balance when you overload it with acids. It can only function properly when there is an alkaline reserve.



Alkaline-forming foods are leafy greens, most fruits and vegetables, most seeds, millet, amaranth, quinoa, black eyed peas, carob, and unheated cold pressed oils.

These should be the predominant foods in any healthy diet, whether you are trying to lose weight or not.
In fact, with the exception of vitamins B12 and D, these foods supply all the nutrients needed for optimal health, particularly when eaten raw or sprouted.

Important: Some alkaline-forming foods can be very acidic, like lemons and apple cider vinegar, yet because of their mineral content they still have an alkalizing effect in the body. It is not the pH of the food that matters, it is the effect it has on the pH inside your body.

Note: Many people are deficient in B12, particularly as they get older, regardless of their diet. I recommend getting tested and supplementing with sub-lingual B12 or a B12 patch if your levels are low.

Note: You need to supplement with Vitamin D3 if you don't get out in the sun enough, or if you live north of the latitude of San Francisco. Get tested and supplement accordingly. Your body will thank you.





The 80% Raw Foods Connection

Over and over again, I hear people say that they lost weight when they started on a high-raw foods diet. Most of them weren't even trying to lose weight. One reason is that raw foods are generally alkaline. They help balance the pH which allows the body eliminate toxins that trigger fat storage, so the excess pounds drop away effortlessly along with the toxins.


When I first discovered how easy it is to lose weight by eating a mainly raw-foods diet, I wasn't even trying to lose weight. I was just looking for a healthier diet and I like to experiment. I only had a few extra pounds to lose, but I was amazed to find that I could eat as much as I wanted and still lose weight until I stabilized at my ideal weight.

I ate lots of fresh fruits, green salads, leafy green smoothies, raw vegetable soups, avocados, olives, nuts, seeds, and salad dressings. According to Raw Foods expert and sports nutritionist Dr. Douglas N. Graham, the ideal balance is 80% or more carbohydrates (mainly from raw fruits), 3-9% protein (mainly from leafy greens), and 3-9% fats (mainly from vegetables and seeds). If you want to lose weight faster, just cut back on the fatty foods until you reach your ideal weight. Read The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas N. Graham.

I personally feel better eating 50/40/10, which is similar to the diet of our chimpanzee cousins. Fifty percent fresh fruit, 40 percent vegetables (mainly leafy greens), and about 10 percent soaked nuts and seeds. The easiest way to include leafy greens in your diet (aside from salads) is to add them to a fruit smoothie. With mild flavored greens, you won't even taste them.

fresh raw vegetables are the key to healthy weight lossOnce you reach your ideal weight, you don't have to stay on a totally alkaline foods diet. Even so, I find that sticking to mostly alkaline-forming foods and at least 80% raw foods (and avoiding junk foods of course) insures a high level of health and vitality, while keeping my weight in the ideal range.


Hormones and Weight Gain

There is a strange thing that happens as we all get older. Our hormone levels change. Suddenly it becomes easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. Before I discovered raw foods, I was approaching menopause with a slow but steady weight gain. I tried eating less and exercising more, but still the pounds were adding up, just a couple pounds a year, and my attempts at dieting and exercise didn't seem to make any difference!

In my research, I've learned that it is actually a good thing for women to gain about ten pounds at menopause, because this helps moderate hormone swings. Very thin women have a much harder time with hot flashes and mood swings during menopause. It would do them good to put on a few pounds, but gaining more than ten pounds can be detrimental to health.

At one point, I exceeded the ten pound gain - and kept going. That was scary, because there seemed to be no end in sight! I had easily maintained my ideal weigh of 125lbs for thirty years and suddenly it wasn't so easy anymore.

No amount of dieting or exercise seemed to help - until I discovered the raw foods secret.  What a relief it was to find that a simple change to a healthier diet could make such a difference!! Raw foods made it easy to return to my ideal weight.

Everyone is born with a different body type. Some are naturally tall and slender; others are more muscular and stocky. But no matter what body type you have, you can easily achieve the weight and health that is ideal for you. That is the weight at which you FEEL BEST.
The way to determine your ideal weight is to pay attention to your level of health and vitality. You may weigh more than your friend, but still be a lot healthier. If you are physically active and your immune system is strong, which means you rarely get sick, you may not need to lose weight at all.

Don't try to force your body into somebody else's mold. Doing so will undermine your immune system and create unhealthy stress and frustration.




Hot Tips for Trimming the Fat


 

Notice that I tend to use terms like "trimming the fat," "shedding extra pounds," and "dropping excess weight." Your subconscious mind is listening to every word you read, think, and speak.

When you repeatedly use words like "weight loss" and "losing weight," you give the subconscious the message that you have lost something, or you are going to lose something. Think of that literally. Something lost needs to be found, so your subconscious may immediately go about trying to find and replace every pound you lose!


Here are some practical steps
you can take to shed those extra pounds:


* Start your day with a good multi-vitamin & mineral supplement. I recommend Vitamin Code raw, food-based vitamins, or New Chapter brand vitamins, because they are excellent quality and easily absorbed. When you know your nutritional "bases are covered," you won't subconsciously seek to fill the gaps by eating more than you really need. You will also be providing your body with energizing B vitamins, cancer-preventing Vitamin D, and potent antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and E to help eliminate the toxins that cause your body to store fat. (If you stay on a long-term, garden-fresh, balanced, organic, raw foods diet, you will no longer need to take supplements.)

* Drink your breakfast.
Start your day with fresh, raw juice if you have a juicer, or whip up a smoothie in your blender from raw fruits and leafy greens. This is a great way to get the greens you need without having to constantly eat salads. Add herbs, garlic, miso, organic soy sauce, or other natural flavorings to create delicious raw soups. I especially like curry flavored soups.

* Soak about half a cup of Goji berries for about two hours and have them for lunch.You'll be amazed how satisfied you will feel all afternoon - and they pack a potent antioxidant wallop to help eliminate fat-collecting toxins from your body. (Avoid if you have arthritic symptoms, since goji berries are in the same family as tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplant
, all of which can be arthritis irritants.)
Other berries are also very high in antioxidants - cranberries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc. Eat them as often as you can.

* Raw, raw, raw! Eat as much fresh and raw food as you  like. If you get bored or run out of ideas for meals, there are excellent raw food preparation books available like The Raw Gourmet, by
Nomi Shannon and Brian Clement. Trust your intuition and pay attention to how you feel and you will be guided to the best balanced diet for you.

* Eat Seaweeds! Iodine deficiency is one of the most common causes of gaining weight. All types of edible seaweeds are rich in iodine, as well as the other minerals
necessary for health. Deep ocean water contains the perfect balance of minerals, and seaweeds reflect that perfect balance.

raw chocolate can actually be good for you!* Chocolate is not a "no no" IF you eat it raw! In fact raw chocolate is a highly nutritious food that has more antioxidant power than just about any other food. Try adding raw cacao powder to smoothies, or make a trail mix with cracked cacao nibs. You can also make a delicious (no kidding) chocolate pudding with creamed avocado, raw cacao powder and honey. It's a delicious way to dump that extra weight! (None of that commercial chocolate, though!) If you need a little sweetener with your raw chocolate, try raisins or raw honey. Note: Too much chocolate, raw or otherwise, may deplete mineral reserves - and it DOES contain caffine.

All things in moderation!

* Eat a variety of raw, fresh, whole, natural foods, including leafy greens, juicy fruits, and a small amount of fatty foods such as seeds, nuts, avocados, and olives. Limit the fats until you reach your ideal weight, but don't eliminate them completely, because they are essential for your health.

* Rotate Greens. Leafy greens should make up about 30% of your diet (whether you are trying to lose weight or not). Greens can be mixed with fruits or fats to make them more palatable. Be sure to eat a variety of different greens. For ideas visit my Amazon Store health books section.

* Include flax seeds (grind in a coffee grinder), soaked chia seeds, hemp seeds, or flax oil for healthy Omega Fatty Acid balance. Too much flax can cause estrogen dominance, so limit intake to about two tablespoons of oil or 1/4 cup of ground seeds per day.

* Drink LOTS of pure water to flush out toxins released as your body eliminates excess fat - at least two quarts per day.
Important!

Note: Drinking from plastic water bottles can cause cause estrogen dominance that can cause weight gain.

If you follow these tips, you are guaranteed to reach your ideal weight in a safe, healthy way.



Using EFT and Law of Attraction
for Weight Management

As with everything else in life, your mind is by far the biggest factor in achieving healthy body weight.

We all run into problems when one part of our mind, the conscious part, makes a decision, (i.e. to get in shape, or to slim down), and a far more powerful part, the subconscious, has conflicting ideas!


The subconscious mind is a much stronger force than our conscious decisions an dchoices. It contains everything we have ever seen or heard, including negative or misleading comments by parents, teachers, and friends, advertisements, and all the thoughts and fears we have ever entertained.

What does that have to do with weight issues?

 Everything!

*  We might have picked up beliefs in childhood about how hard it is to lose weight, because our mother often complained about her struggles, and our inner child still wants to be like her.

* We might eat just to fill a need for nurturing that we never got as children.

* Our subconscious fears can cause us to gain weight as a way of armoring ourselves against the pain of rejection, difficult relationships, loss of love, sexual vulnerability, or any number of other fears.

* Anxiety about fitting in to a society obsessed with appearances could cause a rebellious urge to "pig out" and not be controlled by others.


Your Subconscious Mind Is
Running the Show 95% of the Time!


There are innumerable reasons (which are not reasonable at all) that cause the subconscious mind to sabotage our conscious choices, but the bottom line is that they are always designed to help or protect us in some way.

Did you get that?
I'll say it again, just to make sure you did, because it's important.


Your subconscious mind is always trying to help and protect you, even when it goes against your conscious choices!

The problem is that it doesn't always understand what is best for you. You have to educate it. That's where EFT and Law of Attraction come in.

Law of Attraction is a law of the Universe that basically states: Whatever you focus your thoughts on will become your reality. Your thoughts attract your reality. So if you keep thinking things like, "I'm too fat. I'm so overweight. I can't fit into my jeans. I can't lose weight no matter how hard I try," those thoughts will become your reality - or continue to be your reality.

The way to get OUT of that reality
is to stop paying attention to it!


* Focus your thoughts on ANYTHING else.

* Distract yourself with friends, pets, activities, movies, books, walks, bike rides, or anything else that won't remind you of your weight issues.

* Appreciate everything you can find to appreciate.

* Think about only what you like about your body.

* Don't use the "MY" word in connection with your weight - or any other problem. Don't claim it as your own.

* STOP telling others that you are on a diet, or you need to lose weight! Just don't talk about it at all.


Not so easy?
That's why I mentioned EFT.

EFT for weight lossEveryone is different, so you may have different subconscious beliefs and fears than someone else, but if you can uncover the subconscious factors that are running your life, you can quickly and easily release them with EFT. The best way to do that is to listen to your own words and thoughts - your inner dialogue.

Beliefs are simply thoughts that you keep repeating to yourself! Once you recognize them and question them, they will lose their power to run your life.

You can use EFT to counteract your limiting beliefs, by stating your limiting belief and then stating the truth as you want it to be for you.

Here are a few set up phrases you might want to "tap" on. See if they ring true for you:

*  Even though I believe I am too fat, I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway. (Refer to EFT page for complete instructions.)

* Even though I've always been overweight, I choose to allow my body to find it's ideal, healthy weight now.

* Even though I've gained all this weight, I know I still have a beautiful, slender body inside.

* Even though I have this fear that men (women) will "hit on me" if I lose weight, I love and accept myself just the way I am.

* Even though I hate the way I look in the mirror, I accept that I am beautiful inside and out.

* Even though my mother was fat, and my father was fat, I can create my own slender reality!

* Even though most people get fatter with age, I choose to be like the healthy ones who remain slim.


These are just a few ideas to get you started. Listen to your own "self-talk" and use your own words to create set-up phrases unique to you. If you need some assistance, I will be happy to walk you through the steps to a slimmer, healthier YOU.
