Greetings!
Not that I wasn't enjoying winter, but it sure feels good to find that the days are getting longer and warmer. It's time to take advantage of the sunshine and up your Vitamin D supply. It's more important than you may think as you will see in the first article.

Next we will look at some of the amazing properties of simple clay. It's not just for making pottery! Once you find out all the wonderful things clay can do for your health, I'm sure you will want to keep a supply of Bentonite in your medicine cabinet!

"The China Study" has been around for a few years, but I only recently got around to reading it. Wow! All this time I thought it was about eating Chinese food. Turns out it's the biggest nutritional study ever undertaken and it has powerful implications for personal health, disease prevention, and even global warming. Well worth the read!

It wasn't my intention to fill this newsletter with book reports, but it seems to have fallen into place that way. I'll change the venue in the last article with a piece on Vitamin B12. It's one Vitamin you don't want to miss!

I had no idea that Bentonite clay had so many powerful uses in healing and cleansing the body. Here are just a few quotes from a fascinating article by Perry A, author of "Living Clay Nature's Own Miracle Cure," to perk your interest:

What We Can Learn from "The China Study"

I read a lot of nutrition books and I always learn something from them, but rarely do I read one that leaves me feeling so assured of the wisdom of eating a predominantly plant-based diet, though I have intuitively gravitated toward such a diet throughout my adult life. "The China Study," was a huge undertaking, covering the entire country of China and comparing the diets of people in various regions with their relative health or lack thereof. The results were startling, even to many of the researchers.

The author, T. Collin Campbell, was raised on a dairy farm and was a strong proponent of the meat and dairy industry. By the time he completed the study, he and his family had switched to a plant-based vegetarian diet.

"The China Study" leaves no doubt in my mind that the Western ideal of abundant animal protein in the diet is seriously misguided. The study clearly shows that all of the most common degenerative diseases of the Western World, including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, are largely preventable simply by avoiding animal products. I was also surprised to learn that dairy products are a suspected cause of childhood diabetes in a number of studies!

Though low levels of animal products in the diet, of up to ten percent, corresponded with low levels of degenerative diseases, there was also a correlation shown between levels below ten percent with decreased incidence of these diseases. In other words, the lower the consumption of animal products, the lower the rates of degenerative diseases.

It appears that the best way to avoid the above mentioned diseases is to stick to a whole-foods plant-based diet. For those who have already contracted one or more of these diseases, it is even more important to eliminate animal products from the diet. If this seems like a big sacrifice, just keep in mind that you will be doing yourself and the world a big favor.

The U.N. World Food Council has estimated that transferring "ten to fifteen per cent of cereals now fed to livestock is enough to raise the world’s food supply to feed current levels" of the human population. That means everybody on the planet!

And in a 2006 report, the U.N. said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined!!!

What's good for you is also good for the planet!

Take a B12 Supplement No Matter How You Eat! -
Whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, or meat eater, it is important to take a Vitamin B12 supplement, preferably sublingual, so it doesn't have to go through the digestive process. Contrary to common belief, B-12 deficiency is common in meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.

Though B12 can be manufactured by microbes in the body, antibiotics and antibacterial foods like onions, garlic, and radishes can destroy the microbes responsible for making B-12. Longstanding deficiencies can lead to irreparable nerve damage and it can take 30 years for the damage to become apparent, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

This is one area where cleanliness has not served us so well. In the past we could ingest enough of the microbes responsible for producing B12 from a little dirt on our vegetables, since these microbes are natural in healthy soil. Our modern sanitary practices remove the microbes, which leaves many of us with a B12 deficiency.
